Looks awsome Garry. Now, if I had time and the money, I would do something simular. But because I drive a pickup, the space is limited.

Now all you need is a sat wireless system and you can download while driving. :p

Wolfie

Oh, and congrats on the MVC!!!

David,

The MP3Car.com community is quite large, and there are many people who also have computers in their cars.

Microsoft are actually thinking about bringing out an automotive entertainment system, so I guess they've already stolen the ideas off other people ;)

So I doubt i'll be making my millions yet ;)

My boss, after seeing mine, is very interested in a system in his E30 BMW 325i, so I shall more than likely be helping him with that! I'll get him to order a couple of extra USB to IDE adapters for use at work, as we both use laptops, so there is no spare IDE cables to plug hard drives into to get data off them! :) I will be sure to post some pics of his setup when it is done also.

That's my point Garry, you and a lot of fine folks have done an amazing thing taking off the shelf technology and progressing it. You guys are Pioneers and Innovators. Microsoft with the blessing of the Government they control will come in and take control of the Technology no longer allowing it to be "Open", off the shelf and "Free".

Look it up, they call it "Trusted Computing". If that becomes Law, your MP3 players and Mods to the Cars would be illegal.

God forbid you guys may even be called criminals and what you have done with the Technology criminal. That is afterall what is done to Pioneers now in the name of "IP".

That rules. So when you park it in the garage do you slap a cat5 line into the bumper and transfer new songs and stuff? ;)

Very nice work.

Hey Garry, good thing you don't live in the U.S., you'd be thrown in Jail for breaking the Law. This large MP3.com car community you speak of, any of them in the U.S? If so they better pull their rigs out.

U.S. States Ban Computer Video Screens in Vehicles

Newly passed guidelines in California forbid the use of video-screens in the front seat of vehicles. With the exception of GPS and other driving aid systems, Assembly Bill 301 is geared to eliminate front-seat Wi-Fi computing and other driving distractions. We're already a nation of distracted drivers.

The problem California law enforcement will run into is there's been a significant increase in multi-purpose screens installed by hobbyists.

So, I suppose that you are going to say that the Officers laptops in their cars on the stands that are kind of in the middle of the seats, are going to be exempt from this new law?

Hay..

David,

Most people do have GPS system on the MP3Car.com community, and many of them are from the US.

The outlines of the law are as follows:

SECTION 1. Section 27602 of the Vehicle Code is amended to read:
27602. (a) A person may not drive a motor vehicle if a television
receiver, a video monitor, or a television or video screen, or any other,
similar means of visually displaying a television broadcast or video
signal that produces entertainment or business applications, is operating
and is located in the motor vehicle at any point forward of the back of
the driver 's seat, or is operating and visible to the driver while driving
the motor vehicle.

(b) Subdivision (a) does not apply to the following equipment when
installed in a vehicle:
(1) A vehicle information display.
(2) A global positioning display.
(3) A mapping display.
(4) A visual display used to enhance or supplement the driver 's view
forward, behind, or to the sides of a motor vehicle for the purpose of
maneuvering the vehicle.
(5) A television receiver, video monitor, television or video screen,
or any other, similar means of visually displaying a television broadcast
or video signal, if that equipment has an interlock device that, when the
motor vehicle is driven, disables the equipment for all uses except as a
visual display as described in paragraphs (1) to (4), inclusive.

(c) Subdivision (a) does not apply to a mobile, digital terminal
installed in an authorized emergency vehicle or to a motor vehicle
providing emergency road service or roadside assistance.

Note the bits i've bolded. It is saying that a display, in view of the driver, may not show video or TV broadcasts while the vehicle is in motion, if the display is visible to the driver. It however does allow GPS/mapping software, I'm certain it is if a moving image is being displayed. I for one have 3 screen taps to go from music screen or movie screen (which i don't use anyway, but if i was) to the GPS screen, which can be loaded before they've finished pulling me over if they were to.

There is a discussion going on on this topic here on the MP3Car.com forum :)
