hi,

I posted a laptop for sale on Ebay and this individual sent me an email told me that he would sent out the payment using paypal. He told me to ship overnite to his grandson as a birthday present on last Friday. I said okay, then he pay me using paypal. He didn't want to have the signature sign by anyone except to leave the package outside the door so his grandson have it as a surprise when he arrived home from school. I told him okay too. He paid me using paypal, and i shipped overnite using Airborne Express without getting any signature. Then 2 days ago he called up his credit card, and paypal reversed my transaction. I emailed him back asking him to pay me for the reversed amount that paypal took from my account. He said okay, he'll do it the next day that's today. I emailed him back today and he told me that he was about to paypal me but his grandson said he never received my laptop. Now today (4 days later) he's claiming that his grand son never received the package?. What the heck? What should i do? I already sent paypal the tracking number, but don't know what paypal going to do with the money. Any idea would help? I told him that i would take him to court if he won't pay me back the money.

its' possible that i would win the case?? All i have is his claimed name of his grandson address info only. Don't know anything else? Is the address and name enough to do anything? like take that person to court?

Looks like he's purchased a number of high priced items without any problems (a number of guitars, one of them $4650)...make sure there's no sort of miscommuncation before you attempt to sue him.

Well he told me at first that someone stole his paypal account to login to his paypal that's why he canceled all the credit card transaction. He promise to pay me back the next day. Then the next day come, i emailed him and he told me that he was about to paypal me then he was told that his grandson never received anything. And i called airborne express they told me that they left the package outside as i asked them to do. He also told me not to insurance my package because there would no need. I should have known better to insurance the full amount value of the laptop instead of just $100.

you say he told you not insure something worth $1000???

suunds like someone may have stolen his info. If you still have an email from the person who told you how to ship it - then check the message source because it may give the originating IP address. If this was a criminal he can be tracked and it is probably someone who knows the grandson.


This is too weird - YOU broke every rule for a safe transaction - not trying to be rude, but the only way something that costs that much is leaving my posession is with delivery confirmation - signature confirmation- and insurance. Oh, and uh... payment before shipping!

that is crazy. a warning flag should have went up when he asked that it be shipped to a different address other than the one he has on file with paypal.com. second, you should always send it certified either with insurance of there is some method that NEEDS a require signature. never, ever, send a item and just let it sit on a doorstep. especially a laptop for crying out loud! that is crazy!

I think someone may have stolen his account this stuff can happen and does happen.

He or she has been registered since 1999, but has changed their username within the last 30 days -- ?? I think someone in his family robbed him - plus I enjoy trying to be Perry Mason.
 
I know that was one day transaction. He paid me paypal then i drove to Airborne express shipped overnite. Didn't think of anything else except just getting the package to his grand son before his birthday on Friday..

I can't get his info because he never bid on the auction. He emailed me privately and do the transaction outside of ebay so ebay won't allow me to view his detail unless he won my bid.

Whatever you do - keep every single piece of transaction from him. copy them to CDR or something.
 
If you have the tracking number, you have proof that the laptop was shipped. Since you also kept all the communication (you should print them out hard copy) you have proof that he asked for delivery to that address without signature and without insurance. If the item was not received, he is out of luck. He has to pay you and you CAN sue him. Keep your records in order and try and work it out with him, if he doesn't cooperate, take him to court. And don't let him give you the runaround on it. You are out a lot of money right now and you are entitled to it.

You must be a very trusting person because I wouldn't have done ANTHING that you did.
You shipped without insurance, without a signature, to an unconfirmed address to a person that didn't even win the auction?
Sounds like greed got the better part of you.

I don't know his real info. Can i take the address that i shipped out to court. That adress he said was his grandson.

You got scammed...the problem will be the proof. Unless you got delivery confirmation, yoooooza screwed.
 
Wow, this guy hardly has ANY feedback on ebay.
You used to be able to post feedback to anyone's account on ebay even if YOU DID NOT WIN an auction with that person.

Don't expect paypal to back you unless you sent to the shippers verified address.
You don't have a signature for who received the pacakge, I really don't know what you expect to provide as evidence to a court of law.
Sorry but this is gonna be a tough lesson, I really don't think there's anything to recommend.
 
Thanks you guys. He promised to ship me a M.O tomorrow before he's heading to work and overnite it to me. I'll keep you guys up to date. Lets see if he can keep up his promise this time.

Ah, he just broke the promise again. Said that i would receive a M.O today overnite from yesterday. I didn't get anything in the mail today. Well, i'll do something about this. Thanks guys.

seems like his account got hacked and the perpetrator made off with your laptop, goto the police file a warrant against the person you shipped it to, or is that his actual grandson?

 
If I had to bet on it, I would say the grandson hacked the buyer's accounts, got you to ship the laptop to him with no way to trace it to him, and then charged back the buyer's account so he wouldn't know. I would get the seller's email that is registered with eBay, see if he really has a grandson, and if he lives at the address that you shipped to. If he does, you've found your perp. I bought something from someone with good feedback who scammed me. Turned out the buyer's nephew hacked his accounts and was defrauding people all over the world using his ID with good feedback so no one would suspect.


edit: If the grandson changed the information registered with eBay I can't think of a way to reach the legitimate owner of the account.
