Hi Guys,

I know it's Off Topic but I though if anyone would know you would. I'm looking at the possibilities of getting a broadband connection at home of some sort (ADSL/Cable) even though it's still quite expensive in the UK and I was looking into setting up a dynamic DNS name so I could run a web server/pproxy on the connection. I gather my best option is to use a dynamic DNS name with an IP poster so I could get access from the internet.

Can you guys reccommend a good dynamic DNS service?

Thanks nohr,

Before I forget as well, does anyone recommend a good client for automatically posting the IP?

Dougal you may have problems getting a 'cheap' ADSL/Cable connection if you wish to host a web-site.

Forgetting bandwidth needs, you may find that the ISP's use filtering so that things like web/game/FTP servers are not able to be run, yet you still have full internet access.. You may be forced to go for a more costly 'buisness' account.

I can say that NTL do stop servers on the most popular ports so a web server is not possible.

Blue Yonder let you run servers, although there are some rules attached to it.

I use dyndns, never had any probs with it, I use this to keep my IP updated, its only tiny and does the job:

I use NTL & a cable modem to access the Internet from Cambridge,UK. It's only £20/month but they won't let you run a web or ftp server from home, which is probably fair enough for 20 quid.
