OSX 10.5.8 and win XP network

Yes, just assign an ip address to each side. For example PC 192.168.1.10 - Mac 192.168.1.20 with the subnet mask as 255.255.255.0. You dont need a gateway unless you have an internet connection via another interface.

Once this is done you might want to enable windows sharing on the OSX machine and then to access the share just select the GO menu from finder and then Connect to server and type smb://192.168.1.10 and connect and you should see a list of shares.

Thanks for the help RadiclDreamer! I am just not sure how to do any of those. If you have the time, could you please hit me with a step by step guide?

thanks guys! I will try these out and hopefully will get some results. One last question: is it possible to share an internet connection between the two? running from the mac to xp..

Sure can, you can use windows ICS (internet connection sharing) but at this point youj may be better off getting a cheap router. you can get a good one sub $50
