OSU 2003 National Champion's::14-0 Season!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It depends on which Miami team shows up tonight. If the Miami team that struggled against Rutgers shows up; then it'll be a blowout by Ohio St.

OSU hasn't blown anyone out all year. If Miami has problems scoring vs. a good OSU defense, it'll be a 12-11 final score (or something similarly ugly). I'm not that psyched for the game though; until football goes to a playoff system, I'll always be thinking about college hoops.

I don't really care for the 'Canes, but I have to say that I believe they'll be National Champs yet again.
Then again, I don't like the Bucks any better come to think of it.

Wasn't OSU losing in 4 or 5 games in the last few minutes? And that was to teams who certainly didn't have stunning records. Cincinnati anyone? Illinois? Even Purdue barely had a winning season. C'mon losing to those teams in the 4th quarter! Overtime with a team who only won 5 games? Iowa was also undefeated in the Big 10 (and nearly went undefeated for the whole regular season) and then couldn't even make an offensive touchdown against the first good team they played (until USC put in their backup defence in the late 4th quarter). Yes Miami let Rutgers hang around for a bit, but Miami did blow Rutgers away in the end (42-17). Miami only had 2 close games, and both were to ranked teams.

I would have loved a game between the two best teams in the nation: Miami vs. USC. Of course that would never have happened when there is another undefeated team (and it shouldn't happen either). Boy I want a playoff system so badly.

I'm saying Miami by 14. For those who care, my computer program says it'll Miami by ~6 (I haven't inputted the last few bowl games, so that ~6 may have changed a bit if I were less lazy).

If Miami wins... doesn't that mean Big east wins the college bowl challenge? that would give OSU's conference another lost. I thought Big east was a weak conference....

That ESPN college bowl challenge winner is the winner of this last game: Either Big East or Big 10. But that is a rigged measure of conference strength. Take the Big 12 for example: they played 8 games, but if I'm not mistaken they were favored to win all 8 of those games (some by 18 or more points). So that really makes it unfair to some conferences (the ones who were underdogs in most of their games). Look Here for an unbiased comparison of conferences:

1 BIG 12 79.09
2 PAC-10 79.06
3 SOUTHEASTERN 78.81
4 ATLANTIC COAST 77.91
5 BIG TEN 77.49
6 BIG EAST 76.86
7 MOUNTAIN WEST 66.46
8 CONFERENCE USA 65.73
9 I-A INDEPENDENTS 65.36
10 MID-AMERICAN 63.80
11 WESTERN ATHLETIC 61.34
12 SUN BELT 59.02

Thus the average Big 12 team would beat the average Sun Belt team by 79.09 - 59.02 = 20.07 points. Looking at that I'd say its a virtual 3-way tie between Big 12, Pac-10, and SEC. The ACC and Big-10 are tied next, followed by the Big East. Then there is a dramatic drop in confernece ratings. So the Big East is clearly in 6th place - but it isn't too far back behind the rest.

It is...the problem with the current bowl/lack of playoff system is that bowl match-ups are tied in with conference tie-ins. So if a weak conference produces 1 elite team and a bunch of mediocre teams that play marginal bowl teams (like the Big East teams have been), and beat up on them, it doesn't mean a whole helluva lot. Look at WVU for instance, which was generally regarded as the 2nd best Big East school (don't even say VT...lmao)...they got stomped by UVA, the 4th ACC "seed".

The Big 10 and Pac 10 got the premier match-ups IMO. The Big 10 just hasn't done so well. SEC has been strong as usual and the Big 12 is pretty top heavy. The ACC has actually performed better than anyone would have imagined, with FSU being so bad this year. I'd still rate the Big 10 bowl games as the toughest match-ups...that to me has more impact on the overall strength of the conference than the final win/loss tally.

Speaking of UVA, I think they got shafted... they should be higher than 4th seed as it looks like they're are #2 in ACC. however... FSU being #1 with more than 2 losses is not saying much about ACC this year.

The SEC hasn't been strong at all. Arkansas and Tennessee got killed, Texas beat the crap out of LSU. They are 3-4 overall and 1-2 against the Big Ten.

The Big Ten is 4-2 and beat teams like Washington, Arkansas and Florida.

I do agree with you in saying that the Big Ten had the toughest match-ups.

You do have to look at all the teams, not just the top teams. The ACC had 7 teams with winning seasons (and just 2 with losing seasons).

The SEC hasn't been strong at all
Don't forget that the #2 SEC team didn't play any bowl games... Plus isn't it unfair pitting teams with 5 losses against teams with just 2 (Texas 11-2, LSU 8-5) or (Maryland 11-3, Tennessee 8-5)? The SEC never had a chance.

SEC wasn't it's usual self this season, but it is a traditional powerhouse and as such gets more respect than it deserves on off years.

but once all of the sec teams get all their suspensions and such squared away (alabama, auburn) and once Florida recovers from losing spurrier, the SEC will be dominant again. 🙂

wow, but georgia looked pretty good this season.

OTOH, it doesn't seem that either OSU or Miami looked as dominant as some past national champions.

I agree. I want a playoff between the top 8 teams. 🙂

Dammit I just discovered the game isn't going to be carried live here in Australia.... It should come on at Noon, Saturday Sydney time but instead is delayed to 730pm. Arg. God I hate delayed games.
Bastards! I was looking forward to this game for a few weeks now.

If the game is delayed, maybe you can find a sucker or two to take a bet if you get the outcome from the US before your 7:30PM time
😛

Just walked down to the local sports book and put $20 on OSU and under - easy money😀
