Has anyone been following this?

Apparently clinical trials were successful in that Ostarine increases lean body mass considerably. Supposedly it doesn't have the side effects traditional steroids might promote (gyno, etc), and thus, doesn't require a PCT.

Sounds promising.

Read all the clinical trials - they're all on the elderly. Being old, technically, is a pathological state. If you put the elderly on a weightlifting program, they gain significant lean muscle mass as well. I have yet to see a research article used on other individuals that shows the same results.

There are a fair amount of individual reports from bodybuilders who claim it worked with minimal sides at 50mg/day and an increase in muscle mass. They say it's not nearly as effective as steroids, but the fact that it has no serious risk is a huge bonus.

There must also be a reason as to why its use by most athletes is prohibited.

The problem with individual reports is that there's essentially no control. Simply knowing that they're taking the substance could've resulted in countless changes to their routines, effort levels, diet, etc., and there's no way to know how much of an effect those extraneous changes might have had on their results.

As for athletes, I'd imagine that they simply tend to err on the side of caution with respect to PEDs...if it seems like it can provide a benefit, even if there's no sound proof, then ban it first and test it later.

I'm not at all saying it doesn't have any effects, just that as SC said, it currently seems a bit too early to tell.
