They call it an Alpha Demo. I have no idea what that is, but the game is pretty fun and didnt have any issues on my system. Since it has a full installer I wouldnt really call it an Alpha.

EDIT for updates.
Its on STEAM, with a demo and video. Its also available from the devs website. As of the weekend of Aug 21st, its 8 bucks. I highly recommend.

It just means it hasn't passed internal bug testing yet, so don't be surprised if something doesn't work right.

Every time I notice this thread I keep reading it as "New Physics / Abortion game"

Pretty sure the Japanese have already released a game like this or is currently in development 🙂

in the sun level...the one with the motes orbiting the sun, have any of you gotten big enough to eat the sun?
You cant.
In any level you are only allowed to get so big, even if you absorb the mass from everything else.
The sun level doesnt allow you to absorb the sun.

BUMPED!!!!

Its got a demo and video on STEAM now. The full thing comes out August 8. Everyone should try it, even if they think they arent fans of casual games. Its pretty darn excellent.
If you dont like it, no harm done.

CRAP!
I totally forgot to bump this thread!
Its been out for a few days now. I got it off Steam, but there are other ways to get it. Steam has it for 8 bucks and its totally worth the money. Much more engrossing than other titles and has a demo with the first 4 full levels of the game. Totally worth checking out even if you dont think you like casual games.

So...did they just play the first quarter of Spore and get the idea for this game?

This is just my first impression. I'm currently downloading the demo.

I've never played Spore, but I do know that this has actually been in development longer than Spore. They kept having issues getting their team together and getting work done on it. I dont know if the people at the company were doing other things, or if the company itself was working on other projects. But they've been tossing this around for many years.

you guys really like this game? i played the demo and besides the music, it was extremely boring and had no point/redeeming factors at all.

I like it as it's like playing the only good part of Spore. It's obviously not a complex game, but it takes some mind effort and coordination to play and well worth $9.

At least one, maybe both of the devs were working on UT3.

The demo is very easy compared to some of the later levels, which are almost evil in terms of difficulty. Particularly the Force levels, which simulate gravitational pull and orbits.

i'm prolly gonna get this. the demo was solid. how long is the full game?
I think it's about 40 levels long. Once/if you beat the game, it'll unlock "Forever" mode for each of the 7 or so end levels. After each Forever level you beat, it unlocks an even harder version of that level.

Edit: Actually, I might be thinking of "Plants vs Zombies" as far as the 40 levels. Not sure exactly how many levels there are in Osmos.
