I've only seen Michael Clayton and it was a goodun. Clooney was just Clooney, though, not a best actor.

Michael Clayton was average at best, I'm quite surprised it got so many noms. No Country was great, so deserves all that it got. I will not be seeing Atonement, so can't comment there.

I'm looking forward to seeing Michael Clayton. Javier Bardem has a good shot I'd think at supporting actor.

Every year's Oscar class has a "Juno." This year's nominations were quite predictable, I knew them all besides Michael Clayton (I was overseas when it was released and didn't know how it was received here) last night when they said they were going to announce today.

I really liked There will be blood. Daniel Day Lewis was very good. I need to check out No Country, heard really good things about it.

There Will Be Blood was ok...saw it on Monday. Wasn't much of a point to the movie other than the dude just being an asshole. Daniel Day Lewis was awesome though.

This will probably go the same route as the Golden Globes. They will have a press conference and announce the winners. The event will probably be canceled as the actors will not cross the writers picket. Unless, of course the strike is over by then.

OK, my pics:

Picture: Atonement (sad but true I fear)

Actor: Daniel Day Lewis

Actress: no idea as I've only seen one of those (Juno) and she won't win.

Supporting Actor: Javier Bardem (no contest here)

Supporting Actress: Amy Ryan (just a fantastic performance from her, she stole the movie)

Director: Coens (I really think they have a shot and they definitely deserve it)

i'd be happy if those three all won in those categories. it'd be much deserved.

even though i think 'zodiac' should've at least gotten a nomination somewhere

Picture: There Will be Blood
Director: Toss-up between the Coens and P T Anderson (push towards Anderson)
Actor: D D Lewis
Actress: Julie Christie or Marion Cotillard (she was spectacular)
Sup Actor: Javier Bardem
Sup Actress: Blanchett or Dee?
Original Screenplay: Juno or Rataouille
Adapted Screenplay: again toss-up b/w No Country or There Will be Blood (I give the edge to No Country, but Diving Bell and the Butterfly could be a darkhorse...look out!)

If Attonement wins best picture, I'm going to throw myself out a window.

Will Smith should've at least gotten nominated (not win, but nominated) for his role in I Am Legend. Movie isn't an Oscar-type movie, but he did an excellent job to perform what he had with the script.

EDIT: I still can't get over how Children of Men lost cinematography to some other movie. After that, I believe the 6k people who judge the technical/staff awards have no idea what goes on behind the screens. (well, I don't either..just saying..heh)

Best Actor is a whale of a category this year, IMO. I thought Clooney was great in MC...as that's the only one of those movies i've seen. Tom Wilkinson getting a nom for supporting in MC is a good choice too.

I will never watch the Oscars again if D.D.Lewis does not win Best Actor.

Oh, and Cate should win in both categories in which she is nominated.
