<< Yes mac had the first GUI, it's nice to see they've finally changed it after 15 years. >>

I would just like to take a moment to remind everyone that the first computer with a GUI was, in fact, the Xerox STAR personal computer. Apple had no GUI until clueless Xerox execs allowed him to rape and pillage our Palo Alto Research Center.

We now return to regularly scheduled programming.

OK what I said was a bit confusing. What I meant to say was Mac OS X has a modified version of NFS which allows backward compatibility of HFS and HFS+. Unix file commands are recognised as normal.

bfg10k... not only are unix vile commands recognized but so are permissions and groups... this is why i believe it is not HFS, just like FATx cannot support the permissions of NTFS... i could be wrong though. Also, to all the people wondering about OSx on PC, they have already compiled Darwin (OSx kernel) on an x86 machine, so it is possible (at least the kernel, who knows about Aqua and the other components).

Yes you are correct ragiepew. Mac OS X has support for NFS and HFS+. But they did have to modify NFS so that it could handle HFS+ files. But the core filesystem is 100% NFS.

After looking at this thread I took a look at Apple's site. I'm not sure if I'm missing something, but from the information offered about OSX, the GUI itself doesn't look like its worth all the attention its getting. Though I suppose it is all personal preference in the end.

Well, the "coolness" of osx is better seen in person. In person you can actually see the effects and transparancy of the OS. Also, you can see all the "little" things that make it "cool"... that is all a matter of preferance.

as with many things, (win2K included) you have to see it to believe it. pictures do NOT give full motion video justice.
