OS X folder question

Is there a way in OS 10.5.7 to have a folder display a picture that is contained in that folder.

In WinXP you may place a picture name 'folder.jpg' in a folder and that picture will be displayed on the folder in thumbnail view.

This is very easy.

First open up the picture you want in preview and copy it (command-c).

Now right click on your folder and select get info (or highlight the folder and press command - i)
Click the icon in the top right hand corner of the get info window
paste in the new picture (control -v or edit paste)

Done!

What if I wanted to revert the folder to normal? How would I remove this?

Does the original picture have to be in the folder? Can it totally be deleted from the system?

No, there is no way to have the picture show up on the folder's cover unless you take the folder image and paste the picture you want onto it, and then replace the default folder image.

There is no dynamic way of doing this that I am aware of.

Sorry, I guess I misunderstood. I don't use windows.

yea there is no way to do that, unless you take a copy of the blue folder image and paste your picture onto it as Stu said.

Yea.. OS X isn't the greatest for allowing you to change the UI design that they've implemented. Kinda how the iPhone is as well. You can hack it and change stuff, but really, Apple wants it to look the way they design it. Usually I find this best, since I like they're design choices, generally.. but every once in a while you run into an issue like you have here. Sorry..

No problem. I really like Apple's design choices and style for the UI. Having folders display a thumbnail is an additional way of making searches easier.
