Howdy all,
So here's the situation: I'm trying to install a fresh OS on a friends laptop, a nearly 3 year old compaq presario. I started by trying WinXP just to see if it'd run. It did, but it gave me the following hardware error for the modem: "This device is disabled because the firmwareof the device did not give it the required resources (Code 29)". I think what it basically says is that the hardware didn't give it the resources, and that I should try enabling it in the bios (for which there is no option in the bios). So I tried Win2k, which ran surprisingly good, but alas, I still got the same error with the modem.
So now I have 2 options. The first is to reach out to all the knowledgeable people in this forum and see if anyone has any idea what's wrong with the modem. The other option is to put Win98 back on it.
Here's the problem with option #2: I don't have access to any systems with which I can make a bootable Win98 disk with which to format the drive. Does anyone know where I may obtain something I could use to do so?
Well, weather it's option 1 or 2 that seems the best, I'd appreciate any help.
Thanx in advance,
Jazzman
