OS slower after reformatting

Allo. I'm really hoping someone can help me,

I have an acer 5670 notebook running XP home edition. Previously the system performance was running great but I decided to reformat the HD because of a worm. After re-installing XP and all the drivers, the system actually runs slower. I don't see any problems under device manager and the only software on my computer now is what came with XP.

Anyone have any suggestions or experience with this? Why is it running slower?

Did your XP reinstall include SP2 and all the updates since SP2?

Check that your drives are in DMA mode and not PIO.

What about drive indexing ?? If you don't use it then make sure its off.

Any drivers on the original Notebook CD that you may have forgotton about ? (I do that a lot)

You got the swap file configured the way you want it ?

After you do figure it out, how about posting the fix for our benefit.

Check in Disk Management to see if the drive is formatted NTFS; if it's FAT32 that could slow your system down. If it is, you can convert it to NTFS via the command line. Check you WinXP Help documentation for details.

get rid of acer bloatware, ie power, net, mgmt etc...leave erecovery alone unless u have the restore disks...orig system was fat 32.
