I'm building a new comp and I wanna know your guyses recommendation. Which would be the overall best OS for gaming and just home computer usage, Also compatibilty with the parts: 98SE, 2K, or XP?
The system specs are:
AMD Athlon XP 2100
Asus A7V333 MB
Corsair 2700 512MB Ram
VisionTek Geforce 4 ti4600
SB Audigy Platinum
Seagate 7200 RPM 80 GIG HD

Any ideas?
Thanks

<< BeOS!!! >>

Solaris8 x86!!!!!!!!!!!!!

j/k... But seriously, 2k or xp would be a far better choice than 98 (which just wouldn't do justice tot hat system).
I prefer 2k myself...........

Of those choices, go with XP Professional, since it seems to have the best support for the latest equipment. Be prepared to get rid of a whole bunch of useless integrated programs though...

Red Hat Linux might not be a bad idea either, but the GeForce card seems to indicate you are a gamer - which means that you probably want to run Windows most of the time.

In case you can't tell XP has been annoying me recently. :disgust: Stupid Windows Update program, sneaking Windows Messanger back onto my system and screwing up outlook... freaking pissed me off.

I know what you mean about it sneaking 'Windows Messanger' back in. When I first installed XP on my laptop system. I uninstalled all that useless programs then used the windows update to update XP. When all said and done I found out it installed 'Windows Messanger' again.
