OS Drive

Just wanted to ask a question, I read somewhere, can't remember where, but is it better to have the operating system on a hard drive all by itself rather than using 1 hard drive with the OS and the programs?

I really don't see what the advantage would be to having the programs on a different hard drive than the operating system. I can see some advantages to putting the data on a separate hard drive or partition.

Depends on the programs, most of the programs I use in Windows (mIRC, Mozilla, etc) don't need reinstalled with the OS so keeping them on a seperate partition saves me time if I ever reload the OS.
