I'd still like to know how many died because of a lack of seat belt. There's really no excuse for a vehicle to roll because of a quick manuver or blow out. That really ought to be fixed.

But gads, look at that hulking beast!. I've loved it since the first time I saw it. But the $40,000 sticker made me weak...

Honestly, I'd drive just blissfully down the road like anybody else. We on;y put about 5,000 miles per year on either of our vehicles. Most of the miles are around town in hers. It's a pretty crowded retail center here. It's sometimes hard to get out on the main streets due to traffic. I need something that can scoot out pretty quick. Her '88 E-150 with 5.0 Litre is too poky. I think that Excursion with 7.3L 250 hp would be just right

Can't do that Chooie. The reason we got the stupid conversion van is because the boys love having the Genesis, TV/VCR combo in there. I'm figuring I can squish that stuff between the front seats of the Excursion. If not, I'll be looking at another conversion van. By God, it will have a decent sized V8 in it if I do!

Have you ever looked at the big Dodge Durangos? If you dont mind poor mileage as you say, the one with the big engine and 6000+ pounds is right up your alley and safe also if you are hit. If I didnt like High Performance so much, Id look there.

Dodge Durangos are friggin' tiny. They aren't based on the Ram platform, they're based on the Dakota.

They're in an ENTIRELY different class than Suburbans/Excursions.

Oh... And as far as performance goes, I think Hennessey Motor Sports offers Durango upgrades, & possibly even a V10 upgrade. :Q

Durangos are bigger than current Explorers (don't know about the '02 model) and Blazers, but are smaller than the Expedition or Tahoe.

My wife asked me today if we should buy an Explorer because the prices on the used ones have dropped a little. I'm disinclined because here in Florida you can be certain of having to take emergency evasive maneuvers at 15 miles per hour. (A woman just killed a girl here in a school zone. She was doing 40+ in a 20. Just can't slow people down.) Besides, they are gas hogs and ugly. Unfortunately, when my daughter goes back to swimming, I'll be driving to the ends of the earth again, so I wouldn't want to have one of those buildings on wheels to drive around.

Just making conversation but as I have said before EVERYTHING is relative. Compared to my T/A, A Durango is HUGE. Love the look though.

My friend in Canada has the big GMC Explorer type vehicle, cant remember the name, because his DOG is so huge. A Bouvier that outweighs me.

Durangos look awesome. Before they came out I was praying that Dodge would come out with an SUV based on the Ram platform. When I first saw pics of the Durango I thought I was about to be in heaven... Until I realized it was Dakota based, rather than Ram. Other than their rather dimunitive size, they're my favorite SUV by far. Favorite overall would be a new Suburban. Nice black one with all the windows tinted as dark as the law allows, leather seats, etc. Yeah!

Man, I lke the looks of the Durango too. A friend of mine worked for Chrysler. He just left there to work at another place. But before he left, he wanted to use his discount for a new Chrysler. The first thing he looked at was the Durango. I'll be damned if he didn't pass it up because of lack of room inside. Do you know what he got instead? A caravan! I about puked when I heard that! He got a decked out unit, but a mini-van never the less.

I hear ya!

Watch out with those dark tinted windows though. They are really bad to drive with at night. Bought 2 cars with them and had to have them removed. Work great during the day and look great also but dangerous at night. Sort of like driving with the stereo full blast or with headsets on. Lots of fun but you cant hear a siren or emergency vehicle if you need to.
