I'm thinking about taking a job in Orlando, FL. I'm looking for some opinions and info about the area from those that actually live/have lived there. Things to do, weather, bad things, good things, etc.

I've spent most of my life in WI, so this would be a pretty big jump.

Ok, so there are theme parks... Sign me up! So how about is there anything to do that isn't a theme park? 🙂

Same stuff as any other city. Plus you have Daytona and Tampa close by. Not an expert but I was stationed there for a year and a half. What are your interest?

Weather is hot and humid. Hookers are on OBT.

I'm hoping that the move will give me a nicely expanded golfing season. Beyond that a nice hopefully some fishing, swimming, recreational biking, and a variety of live music wouldn't be bad.

Well all of that is easily found. Can't really suggest anything specific because it has been 10 years since I was there. I did enjoy my stay and didn't have a hard time finding fun things to do. Oddly I never went to a theme park while I was there.

everything that you mentioned is here. More golf courses than anywhere in the country. On the east side of town (near the University of Central Florida) there are a lot of high tech businesses and no tourists. There is plenty to do if you don't like like theme parks (and they are so expensive that you cannot visit them frequently anyway), lots of outdoors stuff especially. It does get hot and humid in the summer, but that is what air conditioning is for (and it isn't any hotter than lots of other places in the country). From October to April Central Florida is perfect. No heat, nice and cool but not freezing, etc. Also, there are lakes everywhere and you can get to a variety of beaches within an hour.

It sounds like you might like something in between Lakeland and Orlando.

Fishing, swimming and biking are readily available in the Tampa area. And there's more lakes, rivers and springs on the west side of the state then there are on the East. Things are a little more rural to the East of Orlando unless you want to party in Daytona or be a trouist in St. Augustine.

I must say though, if you like going to the beach, East coast all the way! Fortunately, it only takes three hours to get all of the way from one side of the state to the other. 😉

Thanks for the solid input. Sounds like there's a nice variety of options, and of course the lack of -20 degree days doesn't hurt.
