Orinoco card loses connection with AP!?!?!

I have a Lucent Orinoco Gold PC card that I use with my laptop. I have a Linksys WAP11 Access Point and the connection gets dropped all the time. It will not remain connected for any substantial amount of time. When the connection is dropped I get an icon on the taskbar that says my network cable is unplugged from LAN connection. (red X) The client manager says searching for connection, and can't seem to find the access point. I have tried changing the channel, but I get the same result. Help!!!

Thanks!

Make sure that you aren't either using a microwave or talking on a 2.4Ghz phone when the connection drops.

I know my first generation Panasonic 2.4Ghz cordless phone would cause one of my old roomates to lose access to his WAP unless he was within about 3 feet of it. The microwave wasn't anywhere near as bad but maybe an older or highly radioactive 🙂 microwave could cause problems.

How far from the AP are you when the connection drops or does it drop at all distances?

happens at any distance--most of the time very close=15 ft. THere does not seem to be anything going on when it drops. (microwave, phone, etc.)

Thanks

Have you set the SSID manually. Try that instead of the default SSID on the AP and client card. Locking the Security ID in may help. May not. Make sure you have latest firmware and drivers for all devices.
