hey lovepig

it's exciting when we get to move - hopefully i can go somewhere a bit cooler. i currently live in texas and i have one advice for you: if you don't live lots of heat, stay away from mid and lower texas. not sure about north texas though. don't get me wrong... texas is a great place, lots of culture. it's just hot.

good luck!

The fall of the dot coms are not the main reason for unemployment. If you really want an IT job move to India.

yay another person who thinks out-sourcing is the root of all evil. Scared investors and very little VC poured into the market is the reason for unemployment. Outsourcing started as a result of the economy going down...its not the cause of it.

That's where my last full time job went. My company was partnered with another company that had deeper pockets. They eventually actually fired the head (and founder) of my company a little while after the "partnership" happened. This other company typically had their software development done by a group of Indian programmers in India. I found myself talking face to face with an Indian woman (this was in San Francisco) and she was pumping me for details on how I did my job (which was database administration and some programming and development). I cheerfully told her everything, thinking I was safe at least for the time being. I knew my job forwards and backwards. It wasn't long before they decided I was expendable since they could have their issues resolved by their outsource programmers in India. That was two days after the Twin Towers crumbled.

I got laid off from my Computer Training job after September 11 and was unemployed for about 6 months. After that, I got my Real Estate license and have been doing well every since. If I fail this time, it's all my fault. I hopfully never have to depend on Da Man again!

Good luck to you all. I wish you the best.

How did you pursue your real estate license? Buy some books, study and take the test? What do you do after you get the license? Apply for jobs selling RE with RE companies?

For those in Raleigh / Durham area check the Sunday edition (June 15th) of the News & Observer. More jobs than previous weeks including a Best Buy job fair. It's money to those who don't have any more benefits...

Anyone in Cleveland looking for a programming job? We just put an ad in the paper and barely got thirty resumes. About this same time last year we had gotten over 150 within 24 hours. Maybe the situation is getting better?

And one other thing... where is the incentive to create the american jobs that were lost overseas when the economy does pick up? Why wouldn't companies just leave those jobs where they are becasue it's cheaper?

Might as well post my info here now since whole Oracle/PSFT/JDE thing is making my head spin and stressing me out.

I'm a recent graduate (May 2002) currently working as a Test automation engineer in Denver. I went to school for Comp Sci so I know C++, Java, and general software engineering concepts. Looking pretty much anywhere doing any sort of Software development/programming/automated testing work.

Technically I'm not unemployed but I don't know how long that will last :(

Any help is greatly appreciated.

I just wanted to post another position for people mainly in the Southern California region since training for this position is done here.

I was in training for this position before I decided I would be much more comfortable doing something else (currently I have an internship). I won't go into details on what exactly you need to do since I am probably bound by non-disclosure agreements I signed and requires a long explanation of differences on how this company's clients make money. But it is fully legitimate like any other business and fully regulated (hence the need of a background check below).

Hourly pay starts at $12/hr. The rest of the information should be covered below. PM for any questions, and I will answer them to the best of my ability. I hope this helps.

Job Opening in Chandler, AZ (Metro Phoenix)

TheThingShop.com and NEVAccessories.com (same company) needs a webmaster and an all-around computer guy. This will be a replacement for myself as I am moving on to another job. However, I am still going to act as a contractor for the company one day a week so I will be available for training. The websites should explain what the company is about. We are a small company with about ten employees (no other PC guys besides me). All the computers are networked together (networking experience helpful) via peer-to-peer. We will also need some help with general computer repair and knowledge. We can work around your school schedule but we need at least 20 hours per week. The job pays $9 hour.

Please private message me if interested. You can also e-mail at the address provided in my profile.

I'm only entry-level Visual Studio/Java programmer, but I know a few guys who are always looking in the area (hell, who isn't).

--------------

As an aside, the wife and I are attempting to move out to Oregon this year - she has some family out there and does retail management, so it should be easy for her to find a job.

HOWEVER, I still need to find something for this to work. Been doing PC/server administration support in an NT environment for the past 5 years, doing a little dev work for the company. Just got a degree in Information Systems, specifically client-server programming, and looking for a company I can start as a tech at, or entry-level programmer, and get more into programming there.

Resume here.

Hell, I'll move to Cleveland. Been out of work for 18 months. Can't even get customer service jobs.
