Working knowledge of FreeBSD is a definite plus, but linux experience is more than acceptable for their needs. The software packages they're using on a 10 node network (yes...10...very small shop) include samba, netatalk, dovecot, fetchmail, sendmail, and they have a yahoo store for their online transactions and use quickbooks to track things. Above all, however, you must be FAST. if you have no technical qualifications, but can pick them up in MINUTES...yes, read minutes....not hours or a day or two...and can implement them on live systems in MINUTES...you are perfect as far the IT portion of the work is done. Lots of footwork involved. Photoshop is a plus. Web systems is a plus. Pay is negotiable. You can ask me what I make, but I'd prefer not to post it.

PM me for details or with a link to your resume.

Thanks for posting this Yoda291, anyone in the Little Ferry area of New Jersey up for this postion chime in.

I have some serious interest in this position does it require local canidates?

It would be great to see a job landing via this thread and board.

ACtually, and I think I forgot to mention. This is in the NYC area around Broadway and 38th.

Was this a question that should have been asked a few years ago?

Depending on what area of history: museums, local government, research for magizines (National Geographic, etc).

Just the fact that you have a liberal degree qualifies you to be a professional liar (politics).

Powerful? Like taking 4 quaaludes and chasing it down with a half gallon of Jack Daneils? Ya.

How depressing.:(

I've heard of lots of people who have succeeded in fields far afield of History, English, Art History, etc. Many in technology fields especially software. It's not uncommon.

The funny thing is that computers are my passion. I just couldn't hack the mathematics aspect of CS... plus Java drove me crazy. I'm interested in somehow combining law and my love for computers.

Shouldn't this thread be unstickied? Its not really finding anyone a job, and for the most part is just a place for dmcowen to post his political agenda...

Its not really finding anyone a job
The problem with a thread like this is that it's only frequented by people without jobs but the people that can help is the people with jobs and they don't read this thread. Idealing, employed people would come here and post about open positions in their company. But people just don't do that. Also, it'd be great if managent or HR types came here to post positions but people like that don't visit places like the Anandtech forums.

I'm not necessarily saying anything you might not have already known. I just wanted to say it.

and what Political Agenda would that be sir? I do not support or knock either the left or the right, the GOP or Dems. If you want to call the Agenda of the people for the people some sort of Political Agenda, then Thank You. Someone has to take the intiative on behalf of people. What are you doing to help???

Leads and ideas are generated. Last year, I was posting open positions for people to review. Others have also done the same.

Some leads from Alaska have been forwarded to others and they have become employed courtesy of the original lead.

Professionals helping professionals (either by leads, advice or just moral support). That is what this thread is all about.

AND IT WORKS!!! :D

Your anti-Bush agenda which comes out in nearly every single thread you post..

As for "helping".. I don't owe YOU or anyone else in this thread a job.. Its not my responsibility to find you a job.. As someone so eloquently pointed out earlier in thitas thread, I think you are waiting around for someone to hand you an 80k/year job.. You should be out LOOKING for jobs, not starting threads on Anandtech hoping something will just give you one based on your cool Avatar..

If you really wanted a job, you would stop posting the 80 stupid anti-Bush posts you make every day and start actually LOOKING.. there is no way someone who is unemployed has any credibility with me when they are starting as many threads on Anandtech as you do.. There ARE jobs out there, but you may need to do something you don't like, and you may not be making 80k a year.. and you may need to move... if you are unwilling to make less, work doing something you don't like, or move.. then you don't really want a job bad enough..

Besides, George Bush is not the reason you are out of work, YOU are the reason you are out of work. Your actions directly resulted in losing your job. The economy, the war, 9/11, Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld, whomever, had NOTHING to do with that.. yet, you seem to be blaming everyone but yourself.

The reason why there aren't a lot of people posting jobs here, is probably because they don't like the idea of hiring people too lazy to actually try to find a job themselves. I know I have heard statistics that the vast majority (90%?) of all jobs are filled by referrals from other employees or internal job postings.. jobs which get posted in newspapers or the internet are generally those which nobody else wants.. You are not going to get one of those good jobs by posting threads on Anandtech.

How many people have actually got jobs as a result of this thread? I bet we can count them on one hand.. and I bet those people would have gotten jobs regardless.. Look at dmcowens first post, all he does is post news about how poor the economy is.. that has NOTHING to do with helping people find jobs.. its just a place for him to somehow explain why he doesn't have a job..

Which furthers my request that this thread should be unstickied.. its just a collection of news posts that dmcowen is linking from other sites.. If he was posted help wanted requests, I could see the merit.. but show me ONE thing that has contributed that has anything to do with helping people find jobs?

Just had a meeting with management. 327 more state employees (I'm one of them) will be laid off, effective Jan 1, 2004. Lay off are based on seniority, which is not really fair because most of the new folks are more efficient (takes less time to do tasks).

I had a job interview this Wed- the pay was really horrible, and they asked me straight up why I was interested since I was overqualified and would probably be bored-

told 'em how interested I was in the company and its work, etc., but not too hopeful.

Hope some of that 7.2% growth brings me one killer job, I really need it SOON

Well, I guess its my turn to add to this. I've been out of a job for almost 9 months and this coming week will be the end of my unemployment. This is so sad. Been working for a company for 10 years and one day, they just say we are laying of the entire department for outsourcing. I have car payments, rent, insurance and stuff and also have a 4 year old son. Thank God my wife still working, but the word is that her company will be doing a lay off end of year as well. This is crazy. I am in NYC and finding a job is ridiculously hard. The people that goy lay off with me are in the same boat as I am. Lately the market has been doing good, I hope the economy picks up soon!!!
