Original NES and SNES controllers

I think we are all crazy. We have to play these games not just collect them, right? lol.

So the 2 "new" gamecube controllers from Japan that weren't in packaging, their right shoulder button has an audible springy noise to it that vibrates the whole controller. I didn't open the NIB gamecube controller, but I doubt it has that issue. It seems like it will probably still function as a secondary controller for multiplayer games, at least.

I'm looking for an Orange Spice gamecube modded to play US games. I don't think I have enough interest in Gamecube to buy the $250 component cable, I might just go with a Wii or Wii-U and call it a day for Gamecube - but the whole thing with being a retro purist is playing on the original hardware IMO.

Revised/expanded hardware is authentic enough in my book... otherwise I'd be playing with one of those recalled Family Computers with the square buttons. 😛 For GameCube I consider the Wii as "original" as an SNES Mini or a Sega CDX. I like my Sharp twinFAMICOM more than an original Family Computer or AV Famicom. 😉

Once I can resolve and distinguish every pixel as a distinct square, I'm happy with video quality. That's why S-Video is good enough for me on most consoles. Hi-Def NES is awesome because S-Video was never an option and I never expected to see HDMI in any way nearly that close to being authentic. It's basically a dream come true!

Yes, I believe my favorite retro console will always be NES now due to HDN. Not playing Sega while growing up will let me experience some of their games (TMNT: Hyperstone Height, etc).

I wish the Gamecube Zelda Four Swords Adventures didn't require GBAs, that would have been a treat to play with family.

I ordered an Orange Gamecube (US). I figure I will never play NTSC-J games anyway, so no modded switch for me. It's just an orange shell over a US gamecube that has digital AV-out capability. Now to figure out if I can get that GC-Video HDMI mod done to it or if I have to shell out for Component cables someday.

Borrowing my friend's Genesis back in the '90s, I played through Sonic 2, Sonic & Knuckles, Rocket Knight Adventures, and Vectorman. All of those were really fun.

So I finally connected my SNES MINI +CSYNC up to the Framemeister.

I was having a lot of problems with Super Mario World and TMNT4. Every 10 minutes or so the screen would start flickering like crazy.

The default SYNC_LEVEL is set to 9. I tried 15, nope. I tried 25, it caused flickering to occur immediately. I tried 0, nope - screen flickered after 10-15 minutes again.

Finally I tried SYNC_LEVEL 20 and played about 5 minutes of FF3 and 30 minutes of Super Mario World and so no issues.

Is this normal? Do you guys have Framemeisters?

I also adjusted the A/D level to try and get some of the dithering noise away from solid colors, seems to have worked, but my value is 139. The default (in the profile) was 131. I appreciate the darker image (91), but it doesn't take all of the noise away.

This is why we need digital to digital consoles (AKA hi-def NES). Framemeister is not perfect. Best option available for many consoles right now, though. Just requires some tweaks.

I don't have any flicker issues with my Framemeister and the SNES Mini+CSYNC. I'm not sure what mod was used on your Mini though, as mine used an RGB amp to resolve the issue of it not having an internal amp hooked up like the PAL versions did.

Here is the work done to the Mini I have:

- RGB AMP install
- S-VIDEO install
- CSYNC enabled (Must use a SCART cable with CSYNC)
- LED install for power indication (Blue LED)
- Super Famicom compatible (Can play Japanese Super Famicom games)

What's your SYNC_LEVEL set to?

Sorry. Don't have one. 🙁 If I ever go RGB it'll probably be with an arcade cabinet or some crazy capture setup, which I imagine is what most people use a Framemeister for.

People use the Elgato capture with the Framemeister. I'm not good enough at retro games to want anyone else to see how many times I die, or even worse the places I die. It is nice to think I could twitch it out to my family in case they're bored and want to see someone beat Super Mario 2 in 5 hours flat.

Doesn't Ichinisan have some twitch device to youtube stream?

Played some Zelda LTTP, StarFox, and Mystical Ninja. Quickly one can realize the SNES had a superior audio chip by Sony. These may have been the musical glory days, followed by some redbook audio in the CD genre which seems more like cheating comparatively.

Acquired an Elgato Game Capture HD (not the HD60) from a local flea market and tested it once. Would be a lot easier to use HDMI pass-thru with a Hi-Def NES. I had to play using crappy RF output while composite AV was running to the capture device. Like a 6+ second delay if I tried to play on the computer display.

Played through Batman and Ninja Gaiden the night I was testing it.

Ichinisan can answer with more detail but I know they have multiple models. The one we have only does 60hz if you lower the resolution to 720p. The NES does a lot of 60hz flashing effects so you want 60hz. A newer model can do 60hz at 1080p.

As Ichinisan mentioned, they are BitBoxes. They are sold from StoneAgeGamer.com. You can buy 1, 5, 10, 15, 25, 50, etc. I think at a time.

You print out the "covers" for them from BitBoxes website or thecoverproject.net, for free. Cut them with a paper cutter and just slide them into the outer casing. It produces a nice look, considering most games available nowadays on the used market are loose (without manual/box). The ones that are complete in box are typically significantly more expensive. This is a good middleground.

You can also pay a little more to get the manual holder that you can sticky into the case, it actually turns out quite beautiful.

I did. I had some basement flooding this summer and I got a little carried away when I started throwing stuff away. It was a terrible task having to go through 20 years of junk and I sort of got into the mindset of "if I haven't used something in the last five years it goes in the dumpster". I figured there were probably millions of those things floating around and they wouldn't be worth anything. Hell, I would have given it to someone here had I known.

Sad thing is, it was completely mint. I only ever bought three games for it I think and it probably didn't have a ton of play time on it. I feel like I should kick myself in the rear end. Hell, I threw the games away too. I need to check the basement again to make sure my wife didn't save it, but she only cared about the Sega Genesis.

I had slight seepage through the foundation but for the most part nothing, my neighbor's basement flooded. I have it partially finished and at this point, I don't want to really think about doing anything expensive down there now (?) - or have storage high up on shelves.

A clean NES is worth a little but not a ton, you may have thrown away about $100-150 depending on which games you tossed. The real money is now in modifying them to play/look better on modern sets (or, connecting them to CRT/PVMs).

Kick yourself if you threw out Stadium Events.

Side note, my Brother in law says he owned Stadium Events "back in the day". How sad...

Well, it is the same game as World Class Track Meet so hopefully he didn't just look at some screenshots during one of those "ZOMG! This game sold on eBay for a stupid price!" articles and decide that it was a game he used to have. If he did have it, then: WOW!

If this stuff is still sitting in a dumpster somewhere it can still probably be salvaged. Hopefully som trash processor caught it and saved it like the kid at Best Buy's electronics recycling program:

The condition of this is essentially new, I'm surprised at how clean it is from my ebay auction. The seller wrote a hand written note inside as well, pretty amazing for $50.

Controllers/etc. were all included and cleaned, but I went with a new PS1 controller which hasn't arrived yet.

I've got the track and field edition in my closet, I learned that it was my wife's a week after getting married, unfortunately they don't have the original box. I was pretty ecstatic to learn of this, even though I don't have a clue how I would hook it up to anything in the house now.

On another note, in college I used to collect the Mega Man games on the SNES, I have no clue where they are at now, I should probably ask my sister, for some reason she ended up with my N64.
