i see that i can get an original geforece 3 card (non ti) for a little over 200 bucks. i was wondering if it would be worth it you grab one of these instead of a radeon 8500. how does it stack up against the competition now?

Neither. I'd grab a Ti200 and overclock it to Ti500 levels. It's so easy that buying anything more expensive doesn't make sense.

I think (with the same TLC for each) the GF3 is gonna outperform the Ti200, but not by all that much. Go for whichever you can get for less. Only your benchmarks will be different... virtually everything else will be the same with either (probably holds true for the Ti500 too)
