first presidential debate ...

kerry countered bush's claim of a strong alliance by saying that we didn't have much of an alliance. Kerry proceeded to state all the counties who were a part of the allied force, which can be all counted in one hand (UK, aussie, and some other country)..

bush fired back saying "you forgot poland"

EDIT:

ahh here we go:

KERRY: The United Nations, Kofi Annan offered help after Baghdad fell. And we never picked him up on that and did what was necessary to transfer authority and to transfer reconstruction. It was always American-run.

Secondly, when we went in, there were three countries: Great Britain, Australia and the United States. That's not a grand coalition. We can do better.

LEHRER: Thirty seconds, Mr. President.

BUSH: Well, actually, he forgot Poland.

I was in the UCSD shuttle bus on the way back to my apt when I heard it over the radio inside the bus. It produced quite a chuckle in the bus...

well I hate to be the optimistic one here, but "grand" is in the eye of the beholder. Since Bush claims there were 30 countries in the coalition, thats a pretty good number....I guess its where you draw the line between small and grand.

after Germany invaded Poland on September 1, 1939 , the Polish American community took that as their slogan to get the USA into WWII to liberate Poland from Nazi occupiers.
