Origin Game Time

Now I know some people hate Origin, but figured I will post this anyway.

Apparently EA has a new feature for Origin called Game Time which allows you to play/try out some games.

Currently they have Battlefield 4 for free until the 14th and also 48hrs of Kingdoms of Amalur, which I am assuming is 48hrs game play not 48hrs normal time. Although it does not go into specific on the Web site

But it only starts when you play, not when you download, so it's basically 2 days of playing whenever you get round to it, rather than things like Steam where it's a free weekend based on set times/days.

He thought it meant you get 48 hours of gameplay time. You might be able to get 48 hours of gameplay time, if you stay up all 48 hours that the license is unlocked.

but, if you can play for 2 days straight non-stop, youll get 48 hours out of it

Hah, 48 hours of gameplay would never happen. Way too many games that could be completed in their entirety in that amount of time.

Wrong. You can take all the time you want to download the game. If you begin the download during the promotional period, you're included in the "game time" event.

The time period does not begin until you click play the first time and then begins counting whether or not you are playing the game. When the period of time is up, you're done. It is not in-game time. It's real-world time.

Interesting idea. Origin is an ok service. Only a shadow as good as Steam, but it works.

From what people say; Origin looks for installed games and if your taxes happen to be in a folder where games typically store data, they will get scanned and then they will be ignored, because they aren't a game.

Yes, so they can determine if you may qualify for a gamers subsidy.


BTW, Id rather have Origin looking at my tax documents than the IRS looking at my medical records.

At least one friend of mine is trying out BF4 via the free time - aside from the fact the 'demo' only includes the core maps he's been pretty much unrestricted in his play afaik and quite enjoying it. I hope they make it standard for their games going forward at least, a demo is a really good service to provide imo.

ITT: the same people who cry about games not having demos anymore cry about a company they don't like being a leader in demos now.


Btw, you won't need 48 hours to decided Kingdom of Amalar is not worthy buying. It only takes like 5 or so minutes before you realize it ain't getting any better. Other than that, this is a pretty good deal. Try the full game for a short period of time, and keep your data should you decide to buy it.
