I haven't looked at the prices in a long time since I won't bother to buy, but I remember seeing individually packaged organic bananas for $1.25 each. You can buy 3 POUNDS of regular bananas for that much! WTF!
i part time at a grocery store (in the produce dept. no less) regular bananas are .60 and orgainc bananas are .80, most of the rest of the organic stuff has a similar markup.
Obviously the individual packaging attributed to the higher cost (I still don't even understand why they did that), but it's nice to see the markup is only 33% in this case.
Either way, still not worth it. And your grocery store charges too much for either type of bananas as it is![]()

But hey - let the hippies feed the economy. Less money they'll waste on drugs and Phish tickets.

So they compared it only on nutritional value? What about taste or other chemicals found?
That's what I'm wondering. No one I know buys organic food for increased nutritional value, but for better taste and no pesticides.
yup. never had anything to do with nutrition...so what's the point of study?

Pardon? The majority of the organic items I have tried taste much better than their inorganic (that doesn't sound right) counterparts.

They taste the same and you should always rinse fruit/veggies before eating anyway.
No, organic varieties taste better (not always, of course), and rinsing doesn't remove all the chemicals.
I sure as hell can't taste the difference. Not worth the 100 to 300% mark up. And I doubt there's enough chemicals to worry about.

Taste is subjective. More people might even agree with you. Doesn't change the fact that I very much prefer regular food over their organic counterparts.

just goes to show that one man's definition of a common word, such as "regular," can be subjective as well.
Odd.

Gotta love the fear mongering.
Show me one valid study that shows people who eat "organic" foods live longer or are healthier than people who eat the same diet but non-organic.
Oops!

Not unlike the usage of the word "organic" itself. If I eat a "non organic" banana, I'm pretty damn sure that banana is composed of organic materials. Yes, I understand the origin of the term in this context, but the fact still remains that I sure as hell still eat truly organic food.

This has been disproven time and again. You're shopping at the wrong stores.
And while there may not be enough chemicals in a single serving, add that up over the course of a few years of meals. Yeah - some chemicals you ingest your body accumulates.

Regardless of whether it kills you or not, it is a form of poison. That is after all its actual intent... to kill pests.
