heh the tapes. probably a clause in the settlement about leaking the tapes.

anyways, gotta love that sweet conservative hipocrisy... gotta love it. wish we could hear the tapes, that would just be too sweet🙂

So what your saying is that if people are conservative they can't do this, but if they are liberal, you can do whatever you want? Why isn't it his 'own personal business' like every liberal who gets caught?

No. It's more, you Republicans are soooo self-righteous and sanctimonious, it's always sweet justice to see you take a nice whack across the knuckles. 🙂

Well, you have to say at least ONE good thing about O'reilly. He wasn't getting blown in the White House.

If you were an honest and moral person.. you would judge people equally.. I think its wrong when both sides do this sort of thing.. But I think thats the difference between libs and conservatives.. Converatives will say its wrong even when their own does it.. Liberals won't..

Right and wrong is not a political ideology.. although some seem to think it is.. If its wrong for one person to do it, its wrong for everyone.. But I guess I don't expect you to understand that..
It's not right for him to say so many bad things about Kerry and then go ahead and use vibrators and such. That's why the Bush administration is such a joke

You get one :cookie: for your completely gratuitous Clinton reference (you might as well say, "at least he wasn't raping and murdering children," or "at least he didn't engage in ethnic cleansing"), and one :cookie: for clearly implying that a consensual affair is worse than nonconsensual sexual harassment.

I bet the tapes will be out in a few days. I'm pretty sure O'Reilly would've fought this if there weren't any.

a. There are DEFINITELY tapes - this quick settlement eliminates any doubt about that.

b. We'll never hear them - they are sealed in a safe in O'Reilly's attorney's office right this minute.

So how bout copies?

I imagine everybody involved has guarded them pretty carefully. The tapes are literally worth millions of dollars, and quite possibly tens of millions. The plaintiff's attorney, Benedict Morelli, has handled these kinds of cases before, and discretion is critical to continued success in such matters. If these tapes are leaked it will wreak havoc on his reputation, whether or not he has anything to do with it.

Well, we know from the specific wording of the complaint that she either had an eidetic memory or she had tapes. I think tapes would be the safe bet.

The plaintiff's attorney, Benedict Morelli, has handled these kinds of cases before (he represented Christian Curry, a guy who fired Morgan Stanley for wrongful termination, claiming he was fired for posing nude before they hired him; he supposedly settled for $52M), and discretion is critical to continued success in such matters. If these tapes are leaked it will wreak havoc on his reputation, whether or not he has anything to do with it.

Good point. However if I were entering negotiations in this matter I'd definity have a backup if negotiations went fubar. Back up being I could desimminate of those tapes for cash. Also, I would let them know some third party has the tapes, just in case I was "run over by a bus" before litigation ended.

How about giving me a cookie because I like cookies? Oh, and relaxing for a laugh from time to time instead of taking everything so seriously is a good way to live btw.

I would say 'head explosion imminent' applies to you in this case but then you might think that I'm using that phrase as some sort of Clinton pun.

Settling is the sux.

Now they are all silent too...won't know the truth for a while. I'm thinking he's guilty, spinzone or not.

Anyone think this was a ploy for ratings?

Not really, it took the air out of his attempt to market his latest book to children

Doesn't he have a wife and a kid or kids. They must be very proud of him.

And to think I thought this guy's morality was more than just a pretense. He looked millions of Americans in the eye week nights and pretended to be better than what he criticized. Poor Bill, just another sexual pig.

anybody care to tell me what this is about?

O'Rielly was being sued for sexual harrassment of a co worker. He countered and said that the phone conversatios were made becuase they were having a relationship. Apparently he kept up the sexual advances and/or conversations after they were welcome.

That last line is speculation on my part from what I've heard of the case.

Alternatively, (devil's advocate here) why would she settle if she had truly been sexually harassed?

I have never been a victim of such a crime, but one would think that the public humiliation of the person who did it to you would be far more fulfilling than money would be.

That's why I've come to doubt that Kobe raped the Colorado girl - if she was truly raped, then why file a civil suit seeking large amounts of cash?

X-Man:

By your logic no one should sue for medical malpractice. Money is often the BEST form of relief, and in this case, assuming she got 6 figures, she sent a strong message to other males and to BO.

Regarding Kobe, I think he went too far. She wanted to play and tease like so many women, but he wanted sex. Guys do that all the time. She's probably due a few grand at most though if you subscribe to the contributory negligence theory of rape. 🙂

Moonbeam:

Bwuahahahaha! All men are pigs. One of my sons who is a pig's pig has actually lectured his sister about how boys are pigs. Too funny, but typical male behavior.

O'Reilly has made a great living off his big mouth. Not his intellect. Not his moral tone. But his acidic big mouth. He's like Rush in many many ways.

Why do white males find guys like Rush and BO so appealing? Is he what they want to be? Is he venting their frustration? Apparently so.... But, I'd hate to be that inarticulate or ill-equipped.

I don't know, there's a big difference IMO between medical malpractice and rape. Malpractice can often result in some sort of disability or even death, and as such, lost wages. The same is not so much true for sexual harassment in cases where the victim hasn't lost her job. I'm not aware of the particulars, but doesn't she work for CNN now?

No, she has no job as far as I know.

Yeah, I don't know if sexual harrasment is worth 6 figures, but rape certainly is. I was just joking about the contrib. negligence bit.

When my 16 year old daughter heard this story on tv last night she said "Oh, gross! I hope she got a lot of money." The look on her face? Priceless. 🙂

Even though I'm conservative, I pretty well believe that O'Reilly was guilty. I still listen to him quite often, but I never actually heard him deny these allegations from Mickris. It leads me to believe that he's 100% guilty... settlement was in his best interest.

You're seeing partisanism that isn't there. I defy you to find a post by a liberal member in which he approves of a liberal committing sexual harassment

Approve or disapprove of Bill Clintons behavior?

I didn't care about the affair, though I hardly consider it admirable. Something like 50% of married men cheat, and I imagine among politicians the number is much higher, due to the kinds of personalities who become politicians, and the opportunities to stray that come with the job. I didn't approve of his lying about it.

I still see no nexus between Clinton's behavior and O'Reilly's.
