The only thing that can stop a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun. Unless the bad guy with a gun actually stops the good guy with a gun and becomes a bad guy with two guns. I guess we better find a good guy with two guns...
 
Given that the gun was a .22 I don't see how he had much choice. I wouldn't want to get into a short range gun fight under any circumstances, and no way I would do it with a .22. No stopping power.

Some people seem to think the victim was just asking for it to happen since his gun was visible (open carry). What about expensive wrist watches, jewelry, coats, cell phones tablets etc that are visible too?
