Did you know that only Portland is actually particularly left wing?

I'm going to take your gibbering idiocy as admitting that you didn't.

Look I know you're a control freak but you've been around here long enough that if you don't know, you should know, that Dave has been disciplined a number of times for having thread titles that are a deviation from the information in the body of the post. The solution is to have a thread title that is exactly the same as the title of the article the post centers around.

Your argument is with the author of the article. You consider yourself to be extremely bright and you should have easily been able to discern that but for reasons known to you alone, you wish to argue a point that doesn't amount to shit. Give yourself a big ol' pat on the back and gaze in the mirror just a little bit longer today. Blowing yourself a kiss while admiring yourself is, of course, optional.

And how about getting your ass into the recent threads by Phokus that have proven pretty much right out of the gate to have been based on fake news. No cries for those thread titles to be changed, no cries to lock them up. Your team has no desire to police the threads from members of your own team. But by golly, you're not going to stand by and let members of the opposing team make threads that might be deemed to disparage a community in one state in the nation. No fucking siree, ain't gonna let that happen.

Meanwhile my team just kind of lets it all roll off of us while people such as yourself tell us we're fascists. It's comical and makes you look real smart within your own mind.

If I had participation trophies to hand out, I'd give you one.

That's a lot of pointless words to defend posting a misleading article, not that anyone's surprised.

In all fairness to the guy in question, someone had to dig really deep to charge and fine this guy considering he was contesting a traffic ticket.
Photo radar tickets are big business for Beaverton. Some years back, the city ticketed one of their own police officers, while on-duty and in a marked vehicle. The officer contested the ticket, and the city fought it all the way to the state supreme court before they lost.

Not sure where your "3 court appearances" rule came from, but if the officer doesn't show up in court and did not call in due to being sick or another valid reason, the case is dismissed.

And here in VA, if you appeal to Circuit Court, it is a trial de novo, which means it is a brand new trial. What happened in the lower court has no bearing in the Circuit Court.

Completely anecdotal but I would wager that it varies state to state.

How the heck does a police officer afford to fight a traffic ticket all the way to the supreme court?

As they were on duty and in a marked vehicle, they kinda had a good case. The speed limit is too low on Allen anyway?

I don't care how good the case is, taking something to the supreme court has got to be hella expensive and to do it over a traffic ticket?!?

Exceptionally good cases can get lawyers to agree to take them with the expectation that the other party will be paying, I believe.

Yeah, the law is even more strict in the great Blue state of Oklahoma. Legally you are not allowed to refer to yourself as an engineer in any capacity without a PE. I get notices of action ever quarter and there are probably 30ish people a quarter that get fined between $500 and $10000 for misrepresentation.

My guess is this guy just said "I am an engineer" and didn't mean to imply he was a PE, but since he did it towards the state board he got busted.

The laws seem crazy, but are there for a reason, and I don't know if a better way. I believe they are very similar in all 50 states.

Seems stupid the state can't come up with a professional designation that isn't completely generic sounding and comprised of two commonly used words like 'professional engineer'.

Guess he doesn't know about the guys with the suspenders and cork bottomed boots. Eugene ain't exactly right wing though. Ex-home of the Merry Pranksters.

Really, they should enforce the laws more and keep unlicensed people from calling themselves engineers. Just like you can't call yourself a realtor or electrician unless you actually are licensed. The issue is there are so many fields that use engineers, without the requirement for a license because they aren't regulated at the state or local level. Like I said, there is no great solution, you can't just make up a term for uber engineers that the public would just understand was a licensed engineer while that guy down the street that claims he is an engineer isn't qualified to produce engineering products. But you can't realistically make all non-PEs stop calling themselves engineers.

Yeah, I'm more talking about the idiots who pulled the jury nullification for those Bundy morons over Malheur.

It seems a relatively easy improvement would be to add a word like "licensed" or "registered" in front of "professional engineer" so it's obvious it was an actual professional designation conferred by the state. Instead of giving $500 fines to people who use imprecise wording like "I'm a professional engineer" instead of "I am an engineer by profession."

I still have a gut feeling he wasn't fined for using math, he was fined for being an asshole.

You aren't getting it, the term engineer by itself is illegal to use if you aren't licensed. If you attach professional you have really crossed a line because any engineer should know professional engineer is a licensed title.

It'd be like calling yourself a Public Accountant with being a CPA.
