~Ordering new PC!~

Ok i finally am ready to order my new system. I do not want to order the entire thing all at once though. What would you guys advise me to buy first based on my current system?

Athlon XP 2500+
Asus A7N8X-E Deluxe
Geforce FX 5900XT w/ VIVO
Seagate Barracuda 7200.7 120Gig (No NCQ)
Chieftec Dragon Case
Onboard sound

Those are the only items i plan on replacing. I plan on replacing them with

X2 3800+ ($333 at ZZF)
DFI NF4 UT Ultra-D ( $129)
P180 ($129 AR @ Monarch until Oct 31)
EVGA 7800GT ($345 NE)
2x Seagate Barracudas in RAID-0 (Only for experience for RAID, not really for performance, although any boost is fine by me) 160Gig ($94 NE)
Creative X-Fi Fatal1ty (Not getting any sound card until they drop below 170)

I would like to order some items tonight if possible.

With your setup, it almost looks like you'll have to order everything at once, or at least cpu/video card/mobo at once. I would defenetly wait until the christmas season to order though, since thats when prices cheapen by a ton 🙂.

I'd start with a new video card. But then you need a new motherboard and CPU.

So stop whining, save your money, and enjoy what you have.

Well almost every game right now is bringing my system to my knees. I can barely run FEAR and SS:CT. Encoding takes a while when burning to a DVD. I have had this system for ~2 years now, it needs updating. All you guys are asking me whats wrong, yet you are all running way newer processors than me.

So stop whining, save your money, and enjoy what you have.

How the hell could i be whining? All ive done is ask questions!!?!?

buy a ASROCK DUAL ULi and the dual core 3800.

this way you can use your memory and video card until you cna afford to upgrade them. I think Someone posted a thread in hot deals where you can get that exact board and chip for $399 which is a really good deal.

EDIT 1

http://www.mwave.com/mwave/viewspec.hmx?scriteria=MB-BA22009

looks like $390 actually, plus it's a Toledo and will overclock like mad.

EDIT 2

Don't worry about the sound card; I recently purchased the X-Fi Music Xtreme and see no differance between it and the onboard sound of the ULi Dual board.

That other guys on a sempron 2800+, not really faster. I also wouldnt change anything. I say this because i cant change my own system as im a poor student :frown: and seeing people with better stuff than me is annoying lol. I used to have one of the best comps around! Back in the day! Durin the war!

Helpful advice part: Yes wait for christmas.

buy everything at once because its no good if you just have a motherboard and cpu and no comp, while prices are dropping, wait until you can get everything at once... you'll be glad

Wait till Christmas, prices will drop and for that price you will be able to get a better PC.

If you're having problems running a particular application, then I suppose you do need to upgrade. If you can "barely" run what you need, then you're still running what you need, however slowly, and you don't really *need* to upgrade.

DVD encoding will take a good bit of time with that 2500+. That's one of the XP lineup's weaknesses, sadly. But you can still do it, albeit slowly.

The thing is, you're talking about a $700-$900 upgrade, depending on how much you can get for your discarded parts. For most of us, that kind of money is not worth a mere speed increase. If you're wealthy enough, go for it. The X2 3800+ is definitely a marvelous CPU. But it's still too expensive for a lot of folks, at this point.

I'm not sure about that DFI NF4 UT Ultra-D. It has some funky issues. For $93 you can get an Epox EP-9NPAJ, one of the best s939 overclockers on the market.

Also, stay away from Creative sound cards. M-Audio and Echo Audio are both fairly solid manufacturers, if you need a high-quality device.

The Seagate Barracudas are great, though! I know I love mine.

Creative sound cards are good for their gaming sound because most games generally support Creative 🙂.

Thanks. While that deal is incredible, and i have heard from many people that ULI is much better than they used to be, i still do not feel comfortable buying that. I would rather stick with Asus, DFI, MSI (Ya know). Thanks a lot for the suggestion, but im just not comfortable
with Asrock or ULI, i would rather get a tried and true NF4 chipset. (Not really wealthy so if something goes wrong, i can just run out and buy another whole thing).
