Big national companies are fine for certain occasions, but I like looking up local florists myself and having them deliver.
Here is a good site for looking up local florists.
Local florists also give you more leeway if you want the flowers delivered on a certain day by a certain time.

There are a lot of choices, does it really matter which one to use or all they pretty much the same? I want to order today and have them delivered on the 14th.

FTD is running a deal for 18 roses and a box of Godiva for $39.99. They tack on like $17 for "handling", but it's still a pretty good deal.

Last year I ordered from them they never showed up. How do you explain to a woman that you ordered flowers but they never showed? Couldn't get anyone on the phone for 4 days afterwards and they never responded to emails. When I finally got someone they sent some half ass apology bouquet for free and offered me $15 off my next order which was a coupon code commonly available on the internet.
I wouldn't order from them again under any condition.
