Ditto. In addition, then they ask the following:

them: "sir, would you like to upsize that for an additional 50 cents?"
me: "no"
them: "Would you like cheese on your burger?"
me: "no"
them: "Could I get you to try one of our hot fresh apple pies?"
me: "Still no"
them: "Would you like an additional burger for another $1.50"?
me: "Mother of God, NO. Gimme my damn order like I ordered it and stfu."
them: "....."
Don't forget the pre-recorded cheery female voice at the beginning often throwing in a suggestion.

Hmm... It's almost like that's the entire point of the thread.

Try reading it.

The point of this thread is for a bunch of whiny nerds to rant about eating at fast food restaurants while having their fine dining experience ruined by excess human interaction.

What are you reading?

When "Americans" happened.

the fast food industry just decided that Americans were too stupid

Nobody does "stupid" quite like an American.

Americans are too stupid to figure out what they want

Methinks somebody's trying way too hard.

Agreed. Can we ban the troll, excuse me pony, yet?

Yea, I know.

Nobody orders anything suggested and they only like to waste yours and their time.

I didn't say it didn't work. I said personally it doesn't work for me, and I hate it when I order and they keep asking. Anymore I just tell them what I want and end it with and thats it. Usually they don't perform the upsell but if they do, after the first question, I politely reply I don't want or need anything else and that my order is final.

I'll have a #3 sandwich only and that order is final. ROLF
(And I didn't mean ROFL)

My solution is to seldom eat FF. If every american ate it as infrequently as I do the industry would disappear.

However, for some reason troll threads appear on various forums occasionally, complaining about the interaction in these places.

I for one do not see how you can't comprehend why things are the way they are during the ordering process.

Proper way to order a fast food meal:

"I would like a (Insert number or combo here), (Insert primary modifier here (With Cheese, no cheese, grilled, crispy, etc)), (Insert Sandwich modifiers here (no lettuce, no tomato, etc)). (Insert Scaling Modifier here (Supersized, Go Large, ETC)). With (Insert side option here (Fries, Rings, Salad, etc)). And a (insert drink preference here) to drink. And"

Either repeat or "That will be all".

Example: I would like a number one with cheese no tomato add bacon large with onion rings and a coke to drink and that will be all. At BK you would end up with a tasty Whopper with cheese meal.

I spent a lot of time working BK and people that ordered like they knew what they were doing I would never upsell to unless there was a special going on. They know what they want, it's not my business to tell them they want something else. Now the people that doddle around and order 4 different meals all different sizes then forget to tell you the drinks and just say "coke, sprite, orange, and coke" at the end without specifying which meals they go with... Yeah I'd fuck with those people all day.

Now, as to the OP. I've never ordered that way. When I did work BK if someone said they wanted a number 3 they were getting a whopper jr fries and a soda of some kind. Maybe the times have changed.

If I wanted the sandwich, would I not order the sandwich by name instead of asking for a "No. 3"?

Assuming you're referring to McDonald's... because #3 includes an option for a sandwich or the meal on their large menu board. It's not like the person is asking you that for no reason. :p

It's definitely a lot easier on the personnel if you can just state whatever options you want without them having to ask.

That particular interaction was not at a McD's, but it is all the same everywhere now. I am old enough to remember being able to order a combo or meal simply by using the number and not having to specify combo or sandwich only. I am not sure why having the number refer to both the meal and just the sandwich is better.

It's definitely a lot easier on the personnel if you can just state whatever options you want without them having to ask.

That kind of ordering fails almost every time. They almost always still ask you all the questions (see my post above).

I wish these places would just install a touchscreen and let us place our own orders. That should save them money as well, not needing someone there to take the order.

LOL @ U thinking because you'd not have a problem with it, it would be a nightmare.

Try standing in line behind the self-service machines at Home Depot or the market - What a fuster-cluck.

I usually say "I'll take a #6, medium (if there's the option), with onion rings and a coke..and that's it." 99% of the time I'm told the total and drive around.

There are no extra questions and no confusion. I guess I make things too easy...

I tried this today at Burger King, and it worked like a charm. I'm not sure why people have so many problems...

50% (or perhaps more) of the people ordering from McDonalds have an IQ less than 100. 50% (probably more) of the people working for McDonalds have an IQ less than 100.

/thread.

Next time, go into a McDonalds and look at the register that they're using - it's designed so that even stupid people can operate it. Ditto the picture menu for customers. The goal of McD's corporate is to maximize profits. That means, they need to minimize the number of interactions where the customer wanted the Big Mac only, but got the fries and drink with it as well, which have to be thrown out. Half the time due to employee stupidity, half the time due to customer stupidity.

Darn it! I just realized I forgot to bring my lunch to work today; didn't bring cash, check, or debit card.

so, McDonald dumpster diving?

I tried it today at McDonalds (nowhere near where I live, BTW).

I ended up having to repeat each aspect of my order, just like always.

Well it works at the grocery store checkout. I won't even go to stores that don't have self-checkout. I admit that it wouldn't work for everyone, though... some people are too stupid, or too old. So they'd need to have two lines, one for self-order and one regular.

Don't act like your communication was flawless in this exchange. How could your answer to a question that hasn't been asked OR answered yet be "still no?"

If I want to head them off at the pass, I provide all the answers and then say "and that's all" before they have the chance to ask me if that's all or suggest anything else. Often, they are required to ask about a drink or something if you didn't already order one but just add "no drink" to your message if you want to head that off.

I don't have a problem with most places, aside from that frickin' Jack in the Box combo. My main problem comes from order takers trying to jump ahead of me. I can understand that. I figure most people don't know how to order but it's very irritating when I try to place my order and you cut me off to ask me a question I was about to tell you anyways.

Wendy's is the worst. One of the many reasons I don't eat Wendy's anymore.
