Well checkisinthemail.com was the cheapest once shipping was factored in. Got 400 checks of babies in flower pots? for $21 and changed shipped. Vista print had 600 checks for $19 and change but shipping killed it. Thanks for the input everyone.

P.S. For the record I use checks for everything: Mortgage, Utilities, Doctor Bill, etc

Another one for Svnla saved the day.

Santa, I hope you are watching and I will send you my wish list very soon. :)

Since the OP was in a hurry but if he wasn't, he could wait for the annual sale from Check In The Mail and could save even more.

Who uses checks? My bank gave me 4 books when I opened my account years ago and I've yet to go through ONE book. With the exception of rent, I have not used a check for anything else in at least 6 years.

12 times 6 = 72. There are 50 checks in a book.
Math fail?

Also, aren't there usually advertisements in the Sunday paper for cheap check printing with all sorts of pretty pictures?

I order then at the bank. Why wouldn't I. They're not that expensive.

yes, yes they are...the site I linked to has 200 personal cheques for 28 bux. Would be a lot cheaper in the states, but we do live in Canada.

I didn't have to pay rent for 2 years in the military. =) And about a year ago I switched banks when I moved out to the Chicago area. Just left out some details, no math fail.

that was a little amusing.

I just recently used up my last few checks i had. Had a checking for 6+ years. Ive now moved over to a CU and they sent me another stack of checks so i should be good again for a while.

Rent, city/plate sticker and wonder city of chicago red-light and speeding cameras are about 90% of what i use my checks for. City of chicago charges like $3-4 every time you want to use a credit card to pay for tickets and stickers.

if someone ABSOLUTELY MUST HAVE A CHECK, first i will hate myself for associating with such an entity, secondly i will just have capital one nee ING, mail one for free on my behalf. cheaper, simpler, and easier to track than anything listed previously

We have one utility bill that doesn't offer on-line payments of any kind. Cash in their office...or a check are the only forms of payment they will accept.

Pretty much the same case for me...

I'm trying to figure out the places the claim they will refuse payment - is that even legal?

Not sure..

He's an ignorant troll. He does stuff like this in every thread he posts in.

Something ain't right with that kid.

I think the laws regarding legal tender are that they only have to accept dollars, as in they can't refuse to be paid in American currency. What they choose to accept, so long as they accept some form of dollars, is up to them. Which is complete BS. Placings being able to turn down $100 bills is stupid. I've run into the problem of having too much money before. =(

if you have laser its cheaper to print it yourself

no magnetic ink so some places won't take them.

I'm pretty sure I have checks somewhere. Maybe? Dunno.

The only thing I need a check for is rent. But I'm weird and I hate having things outstanding, so I pay Chase $5 to print off a money order. I got ass raped in overdraft fees once and I will never go through that again.

Side note: Chase checking is awesome. The online total is always what my balance actually is. And when I need to pay lil rudeguy his allowance, I zap it to his Liquid card instantly. It is awesome.

I ordered 100 of them (not free) years after I opened my chequing account. I think I've used about 15 so far... Ten of them were pobably void checks to open new accounts or start at new jobs.

wow, not a single "who uses checks any more?" comment? haha

- anything having to do with kids' school uses checks only (also camp tuition, field trips, fund raisers, lunch tickets, etc.)
- buying a house you'll be writing a lot of checks throughout the process.
- same with home renovation contractors
- my water district charges us to do auto-payment and based on principal I refuse and just write a check.
- our tax guy and similar service people
- home alarm central station semi-annual fee
- town-related fees (new sidewalk, alarm permit for PD, etc.)
- passport application
- wedding / newborn baby gift
- dentist annual deductible that turned out not to be covered

Basically not all services or events can be paid online and you don't want to be sending cash in the mail. We also don't like to give cash in envelopes with cards because they are tossed after reading and there's nothing worse than money being literally thrown away. At least with a check you know they got your gift.

That's all I got.

Yeah some stuff still requires a cheque. Or when you sign up for a new service or utility and don't get around to setting up preauthorized payment you'll have to send the first payment by cheque if they don't have a system to pay online.

About the only thing I use cheques for is donations though. Ex: the church and stuff like that.

protip- for utilities that don't have online bill pay, you can use your bank's billpay service to mail them a bank check. all you have to do is punch in the amount every month.

My city does that too. So I just use bill pay. Then they added a disclaimer saying no bill pay. I still send it, they called me and I told them it's just a check, the return address doesn't matter and it cashes the same way so take it or kiss my ass. They took it anyways.

Hate this city, so glad I'm moving.
