Ordering a FX5200

Hi Guys,

I need a budget card for my other system just used for playing lan games and I have decided on buying a fx5200.

I've lots of complains about people ordering 128-bit cards and ending up with 64-bit cards, So do you think it is a good idea to just order a 256 mb card coz all the 256mb cards have 128-bit. Is it worth the extra 10-15$.
This is a big deal coz I live in India and my Father left to USA and he will be staying there just for a week and he wont have time to send it back and get a replacement.

Thanks

Don't buy a FX5200... they're of no value at all... you'd be better off with a Ti4200.

*EDIT* If I was to hate nVidia for any reason, it wouldn't be because of their driver optimizations, it would be for creating the FX5200. It's about the equivalent of a GeForce4 MX series card.

Oh yeah don't get a 5200. 4200 is the best deal in that price range. In fact, the ATi 9100 would probably be a better deal as well.

I love the 5200. Imnot sure if having 256 megs of ram will help it.Sure theres lots of better cards if you don;t have the best people on this forum insult you. FX 5200 is fine I gave one to my sister for christmas.

I have a hard time getting 5 year old games to run at 100 FPS with my brother's fx5200, but my old geforce 3 ti 200 could do it. That says a lot about the card, I think.

We're not insulting him; we're just trying to help him get the best deal possible. How many 3Dmarks do you get on your 5200 in 3Dmark2001? I know it's a terrible benchmark, but I know that the 9100 scores around 10,000 in a good system.

Well Obviously the crard is not as good as a geforce 3.
It is about 1/3 faster than the geforce 4 mx 440 from my testing. I dont own the fx 5200 Anymore I upgraded to a 5700 ultra and gave the old one to my sister along with a 3d game.
If the fx 5200 had no value as one user claimed it wouldn't be able to run any games at all. The card ran every game that was out 1 year ago. Every single game no problem and that was a PCI model.

I had a PNY GeForce FX 5200, 128 megs, with a 128 bit memory interface, and it was PERFECT for casual gaming, the only reason I stepped up to the plate and got a better card was because I couldn't play HALO with all the eye candy. If you play games like Warcraft III, Age of Mythology, and stuff like Call of Duty, a 128 bit 5200 would be fine. If you want to turn on all the eye candy, look elsewhere. 🙂

it sucks for the money. get a 4200

Depends on how much money we're talking about here. The fact that they are readily available makes it more appealing than a 4200 to the average shopper.

well the average shopper is a retard. get the 4200

The 9600 series is on the same level of the FX5200 series, HORRIBLE for the price.

Get a Geforce 4 TI4200, 4400 for 50-60 bucks SHIPPED on EBAY. Get a Radeon 9700 if your going to spend more than 80 bucks.

I hate to be an ass, but like the others have said.. the FX5200 is a POS... I mean really it is.. it's 3d power is bleak, at best.. and it's overall just hardly worth the $50 or whatever it's worth... I'd get something else.. a 9100, or Ti4200 like others have said.

A GeForce 2 MX200 will run every game that was out a year ago as well... that doesn't mean it's not a piece of dog crap compared to what's available for only a few dollars more.

Sure you can use a FX5200 for casual gaming... no way in hell is it the best solution no matter what way you look at it. It's DX9 capabilities are a non-factor since it's too damn slow to run anything DX9. Other than that, the ONLY advantages it has over a Ti4200 is that they're available with passive cooling and Best Buy has TONS of them they'd just LOVE to sell to you.

Dude, seeing as you completely ignored every piece of advice given to you in this thread, I will not help you choose which 9600 card to waste your money on. Didn't someone say something about the terrible price/performance on the 9600 cards? Better than 5200, but still...

the 9600 non pro sucks
the 5200 sucks

get it through your fscking head you n00b! order a damn 4200 or 9600pro.

god...i could teach a monkey faster than you.
