Ordered Ocarina of Time from Amazon

Hope this game deserves all the hype. Never played any Zelda games from that era. N64 I just missed completely except renting from blockbuster a few times and playing Mario 64.

I like Twilight Princess and Windwaker. But they are still bottom of the list compared to the 2d games. Skyward sword was fun then I lost interest in it when life got busy. I still have to go back and finish the game. Too lazy to get the save data from my wii and transfer it to my wii u.

Did I make the right call?

Hard to say, from my perspective. I have a friend who LOVES that game. I had never played it, and he had me try it once when I went to his house. I didn't play long because I just didn't like it. If I ever decide to try it again, it'll probably be on an emulator.

But if you're in the mood for trying N64 games, get Snowboard Kids. It's Mario Kart, but on snowboards, and with better items.

It is Amazing game, but it probably wont live up to hype for you since it is considered one of the best games ever by many. Shame you didn't play it when it first came out, a lot of what the 3D Zelda's built on was from OoT in many ways.

The game does have some flaws in it for sure. There's not as much exploring to do in the open world (which is pretty empty) as with other Zelda games. It's still an amazing game, and definitely one of the best of all time.

When you're done with OoT, you'll have to play Majora's Mask yet. While the core gameplay is the same, it's quite a bit different. There's a debate around Zelda fans as to whether it's the better of the two games. I'd say it is.

OoT was amazing when it came out. It was the first 3D Zelda and it introduced things that were never before experienced.

I imagine that wow factor is long gone, but it's still an excellent game.

Maybe it's just me, but I find that most Zelda games are best enjoyed when they first come out. I played OoT to death back in the N64 days and beat it. Looking back at it now, I know it's a great game mechanically, but visually it's way dated. Still, I hope you enjoy it.

They made it look pretty nice on 3DS. I would say it's just as nice as any other 3DS game which are plenty fine.

I recently played through Ocarina of Time and Wind Waker with my 6 year old daughter. For what it's worth, she heavily favored Ocarina of Time, despite Wind Waker having the superior visuals.

I think a few reasons why, are that the story has great pacing, the game allows you to explore at your own pace, but never leaves you lost... and little girls like horses a lot more than boats.

My only gripe with the 3DS version of OoT (which I think has a nice visual face-lift vs the original), is that the 3DS analog stick is terrible. Which isn't Ocarina of Time's fault.

I hope you like it... it's one of our favorite 3DS games!

The open world is a bit empty, but for me, that's not a bad thing--riding a horse along the plains is a great experience (even just in a video game). The game's soundtrack is outstanding. And of course the visuals are dated, but I appreciate the N64 look, and the game still manages to create beauty within the limitations of the time.

Get it today in the mail. The warehouse must be in Florida somewhere for it to be here overnight.

Can't wait. Soundtracks make a game for me. A link between worlds knocked that part out of the park.

OoT is REALLY overrated in my opinion, but a good game. By today's standards, it is almost unplayable. The camera is terrible, and the controls are clunky. I much prefer A Link to the Past or some of the more recent Zelda's from the handheld markets. WW was great too...

Edit: I think everyone remembers it a LOT better than it is today, if they sat down to play it.

Well if it sucks. I can always resell it for what I paid. Will lose ebay fees. but chalk it up to a rental. I have found the 3d zeldas don't have much replayability. 2d ones I can play over and over but the 3d are just too much exploring and too large. Windwaker was a blast to play the first time around. However after finishing it, there is zero desire to go back...

i didnt like tOoT as much tWW... Zelda toot was just too dark/sad. as for TP, i got to the first dungeon, decided to play something else with driver forced SGSSAA, then started dolphin again just to get the yellow dolphin text on a blank screen. so i deleted the cache which deleted my saved game and i havent gotten back to starting a new game.

never tried skyward sword and i probably wont because each new zelda game is really like an add-on level pack... repetition can be very fun but nintendo does it a bit too much rather than make like 4 or 5 franchises in one year and then only make one or two sequels/prequels/spin-offs. i guess shigeru miyamoto's games are so popular because he does such a good job executing existing ideas.

I could never get into Ocarina of Time....quit playing just before the water temple. It wasn't bad, it just wasn't as good as Link to the Past. Even today its an absolutely beautiful game to play, and is still graphically lovely. OOT, as others noted, has absolutely horrid camera control.

This.

I still hold that the pinnacle of console games was on SNES. It doesn't get any better than A Link to the Past or Super Metroid. Platformers or isometric views just don't get any better....

Ocarina of Time was amazing.

I think if you're a big Zelda fan you can't miss OOT. For folks who may not be huge Zelda fans I can see how the game has been dated too much.

I though Twilight Princess was a better realization of a Zelda game than OOT.

I didn't like Wind Waker and I really disliked Skyward Sword. A Link to The Past is one of my favorite games ever.

OOT is still the one of best Zeldas to me. Playing it in HiRes on an emulator is even better.

*shrug* The 3DS version felt just fine to me even compared to modern 3D Zelda games. I'm sure trying to play it on the N64 itself is much harder these days (most games are, with that controller...).

I think OOT has one of the better Zelda soundtracks (it's quite excellent). Also had a really great atmosphere that still holds to this day. The dungeons were also quite solid despite the water temple sucking. Sure, some of the newer Zelda games do some things better, and OOT definitely has an older feeling to it in comparison, but I'd argue it's one of the most well-rounded games in the series on top of being revolutionary for the series (which, in and of itself is not a trait that always makes a game great).

OOT is the best game I ever played and all of the newer zelda games suck in comparison. I'd love to see OOT with today's graphics.

I'm playin OOT for the first time on an N64 right now, and am having a good time. It can get wonky but it's still enjoyable. I haven't gotten to the water temple yet (still in the forest temple) but for how frustrating it can be, it is also quite rewarding.

I am planning on starting from the original once I beat this, and working my way through the series. I never got into it as a kid, but want to experience the series from the ground up.

Not all Zelda is golden, I'd start with SNES and go from there. That's when it really started to get epic... don't miss some of the handheld games either.

if you didn't finish skyward sword, not sure why you would pick up another zelda game. my problem with the game is it's way overpriced. we're talking about a 3 year old remake of a 16 year old game. Retails for $40 wtf? i bought it for $25 used at bestbuy and even that feels like a slap in the face.
