Ordered iPad Mini for my daughter, I didn't know they came fresh from China!

Kind of giggled at the UPS tracking:

Chek Lap Kok, Hong Kong 12/12/2012
12/12/2012 2:40 P.M. Arrival Scan
Shenzhen, China 12/12/2012 12:20 P.M. Departure Scan
Shenzhen, China 12/11/2012 7:05 P.M. Origin Scan
China 12/12/2012 10:55 P.M. Order Processed: Ready for UPS

Man...it might still be warm when it gets here 🙂

A lot of Apple stuff is mailed from China. I had ordered a Mac Mini a few years ago that came from there, and recently couple of ipods.

Yep, most Apple products are made in China. Just recently they said they were going to move some production to the US.

I bought a mini a few weeks ago; took it back to the Apple Store 4 days later. Couldn't deal with the non-Retina display. Coming from an iPad 3 and an iPhone 5, downgrading to the non-Retina display on the iPad mini was an assault on my eyes.

When they make a Retina iPad mini, I'll be all over it like white on rice. I absolutely LOVE the form-factor.

Im sure it still has fresh tears on it from all of those young workers who built that thing for you for $1.

the laptop i got my kid for high school graduation had the same tracking info. it took 4 days for me to get it from China. it takes 3 days for a letter mailed from denver to get to Houston.

Yes, freshly made in China with the Apple markup just the same. You didn't think they would use their massive profit margins to produce in a non-developing country did you? They have too many suckers willing to fork over the dough regardless of where it is made so why would they.

oh no. chinese manufacturing = bad. usa = good. boohoo.

get over it. that's how the global economy works. the fact that they're doing it JIT is quite impressive. Google has their tablets stocked up in Kentucky on the other hand...

I've taken lean manufacturing classes, and I remember the best explanation of lean is that you would be building it on the delivery truck if you could.

No, that's not what my point was. My point being everyone manufacturers their crap in China yet Apple somehow still gets suckers to pay the absurd markup on their products when their are plenty of competitors that produce similar stuff in China for much less and provides the same functions.

Plus you'd think the hipsters buying Apple products would start to feel bad that Apple gobbles up all the profits and pisses on the Chinese workers making their shit.

Managed to snag one for my mom at release. Form factor is awsome, just have to get her to stop asking me what to do and get her to realize she can do a ton of stuff on there simply by exploring the unit. Facetime with grandaughter on a bigger screen than the iphone was one of best things. Very light, very fun to use.

Coming from iPhone4s and iphone 5, the mini screen looks great to me. I'd gladly take retina display, but the screen quality is superb as is nonetheless.

Thought about getting one too, but no retina does it in. When I switch between our iPad 3 and my family's iPad 2, my eyes bleed. Yes, we're all spoiled.

Calling apple customers suckers makes sense until you realize there is a difference in the products and they way people use them.

Apple simply makes better products than the competetion, if they didn't, then people woudn't pay more.

This is the opposite of every objective review I've read, including DisplayMate's analysis which showed the Mini's display getting curb stomped by the Kindle Fire HD and Nexus 7. The iPhone 5's display is light years ahead of the Mini's in every measurable category.

Yep, some stuff comes direct from China. I got a refurbed iPod last year and it came from Guangzhou (I think).

So you are the one... lol

Too small. I love the original size and the ipad 2 is just about the perfect price/size imho.

He knows they were made IN China, just surprising that they actually shipped direct from there. I didn't know that either but it cuts down on extra shipping costs so why not.

I like 7" tablets, and would never get anything over 8". If I'm going big, I want a real keyboard attached to a real computer.

It's my daughter's first iPad, so she won't know the difference 😉

I agree with the form factor. a 10" tablet gets too heavy and bulky to hold after a while. The 7-8" seems to be right right size/weight for a tablet.

I have a Nexus 7 in my future. Maybe after Christmas.

I've been using an IPad Mini for a few weeks now. My IPad 3 feels so heavy now. I can't wait for the Mini with retina display, it's the only thing I don't like about the mini.
