I don't think cable is availabe in my area yet. Besides, I heard that when cable modem servers get packed, connections can be as low as a 28K modem(maybe exaggerated, but something like that).

Just wondering, what is the procedure for setting up (the whole process) a cable modem? How long does it take and is it more troublesome than DSL?

I've had Verizon DSL since April 14,2000. I ordered it March 1,2000 and the initial connection date was supposed to be April 7th. They emailed me on April 1 telling me it would be a week late. That was a minor (and tolerable) delay. My only issues have been that I have had like 3 2-day outages. Other than that, it's been pretty much ok.

Although, I am still trying to understand WTF is up with this software upgrade they are having everyone do... See my thread in Networking about the software upgrade.

A guy I work with ordered IDSL via Phoenix Networks and after 16 weeks of waiting for Verizon, Northpoint (before they were bought by Verizon), and Phoenix to sort it all out, he ended up cancelling it. His apartment complex told him that cable would be available within a month or two.
