I love hatches, but since I got my Mazda3s hatch for 16500 touring with sunroof and cd changer for <17K, I don't think I could convince myself to pay 50% more for a Mini.
Also, I think now we are in a bit of a temporary situation where supply of small cars is outstripped by demand, and some of the pricing is a bit exploitative due to that.

sorry dude, mazda isn't even in the same league.

want. mini. so. bad.

What league would that be? Clown car league? :D

This and the fact that you'll have one empty toggle made me get this option. Plus, you can wire them to your brakes if you would like, so they act like brake lights to make yourself more visible. But, I'll leave it for the idiot tailgaters with illegal HID's.

Congrats! We really wanted a Clubman S but decided we just couldn't swing it. Enjoy your new ride.

I noticed you've had a GTO, 335i at one point (do you still have it?), and an M3. I noticed from the MINI forums that a lot of people were moving from expensive cars to the MINI Cooper S, making the markups on them affordable to people moving from an expensive car. Other cars in the class, like the Civic Si, Mazdaspeed3, etc., were mostly owned by kids moving from a used car.

Certainly the image conscious Mini buying crowd is more immune to dealer markups, which is kind of amusing because they also cite fuel savings as reason to get one. They are saving money on gas to give it to the dealer, I guess :)

The 335i was traded in when I got the M3, and I still have the GTO. I considered the Mini before buying the GTO (not at the same time; I'd considered the Mini in early '05, months before getting the GTO).

Congrats on the new car! I was shopping around and looked at one, but I'm more of a sports car/roadster kind of guy and got a Saturn Sky Redline.

I'm considering a mini S when the lease on my 335i is up in 20 months. We should have in states the alfa mito and fiat abarth to compare by then.

Sure. Then you can find a Used Porsche Cayman for 33k in the states, then you can find a Used WHATEVER for 4k more, then you can find a Used ANOTHERWHATEVER for 4k more, and so on.

Oops, what's the point here?

Is bmw gonna bring the 1 series hatch to the US, or they still think (wrongly) that Americans don't like hatches?

The only think that bothers me about the mini is that is comes to $27K configured the way I want it.

It's made by BMW, they nickel and dime you like crazy. Thanks to IamWiz :))), I changed my mind from getting the sports package to the convenience package instead, since the bang for your buck is much higher, especially if cruise control and bluetooth are important to you. Plus, I really dislike the Playskool sports package wheels, and I think 17's are too big for a MINI. You have to be careful with the options. Most are very overpriced. Btw, if you want a MINI with very little options or in a manual transmission, you will have to order it.

You will certainly save a lot of money on gas, while keeping the forced induction (twin-scroll instead of twin-turbo, but it's a 4-banger) you are probably used to by now.

FAIL! 17's looks great in white on dark blue/red Minis.

The power is great in 335i, but I'm more of a handling fanatic so If I was to order a mini, it would have to have sport package and at least 17" wheels with summer tires. The JCW COOPER is another 2K without the options, that seems like a great little pocket rocket, but a Mini for over 30K is a hard pill to swallow...

I'm trying to convince my wife to let me get rid of the maxima and get a mini s. i was playing around on the miniusa.com site last night. i also think the convenience package is a good deal. i would also add the hid, and bluetooth. i don't remember, is bluetooth and ipod connect part of the convenience? there are so many options its kind of crazy but i'm thinking i can get the accessories cheaper from an online dealer or something. any comments on the factory alarm for around $250? i imagine it integrates with the keyless entry and keyless start and might be off than having to carry a separate key fob from a viper or something. what do you guys think? also the clear bra, it seems like a decent price for the top and bottom kit. will it be covered under the bumper to bumper warranty?

The integrated bluetooth and ipod connection is part of the convenience package.

The crazy amount of options are mostly overpriced, so if you take it easy with the options, a Cooper S even with a markup can be had for under $25k.

I just configured a Mini Cooper S on their website at more than $42,000. $42 fucking thousand dollars. Pause and let that number sink in. I'd say the point is that if you want a fun little car, a lightly used Lotus Elise is a relative bargain compared to a Mini in terms of price to performance.

So you fully loaded a car with BMW options then called a used 2 seater sports car a bargain? What the fuck? I configured my MINI for 23,980 before a dealer markup of $1000. Do you think before you post?

I prefer the BMW method of options, instead of Honda's model of no options ever. I don't like being forced to get 10 other features because I wanted leather seats or navigation.

I also don't think a lot of MINIs options are pricy for what you get. LSD for $500, sign me up, Xenon headlamps for $500, good to go.

If you want to see overpriced options, check out Mercedes.

Don't tell me you configured 2009 MINI, John Cooper Works edition. I just configured on their website, with EVERY FUCKING POSSIBLE OPTION WITHOUT JOHN COOPER WORKS ACCESSORIES, and it came out around 38k. Every possible option includes not only useful options (Nav, LSD, alarm, rear park distance control, all 3 packages), but also 7k worth of useless craps like Union Jack Mirrors, Satellite Radio subscription, Roof Rack, Bike Holder, special leather seat, nose mask, chrome wheel, etc.

Every car get pricey with such options added. Good luck finding used Lotus with those options for under 45k.
