the number of pipes doesn't matter when comparing different architectures.. kinda like clock speeds..

so while comparing a 12 pipe 6800 to a 16 pipe 6800 has relevance, comparing a 12 pipe 6800 to a 12 pipe r420 does not.

it's the number of math/texture ops the "pipe" is capable of that matters, not how many pipes there are...

I'm curious if anyone here is going to pay the $494 to get their X800Pro now (Z-buy) or wait to see if the pre-order prices of $399 & $349 that some places are listing hold true?

So anyone here order the X800 yet? If so for what price? Anyone here got theirs yet?

Any1 notice that the CUSA and BB pages now list the availability/arrival dates as late June?
Yesterday when I was going to order the dates were within 2 weeks.
Looks like I'll wait for Newegg or until my local BB/CUSA has them on the shelves.

I just got off the phone with a sales rep at the retail store MicroCenter in Denver, CO. He stated that the cards are in order from ATI and have not reached their main wharehouse; ETA on shelves at least two weeks.

Keep in mind the 6800 will have only 128MB RAM, and that may be a limiting factor with cards so fast you can run them at 12x10 4xAA in practically everything.

$340 right off the bat for an X800P seems pretty good. Hopefully the 6800GT will debut with similarly reduced street prices and force the X800SE and 6800 down into the mid-$200s at launch. :)

I assume that you are talking about the X800 XT... What I find interesting about that is that originally ATI was set to release the X800 Pro on May 4th, which they did, and then release the XT in late June. It looks like the surprise May 4th "release" of the XT was just a paper launch, since their actual availability dates don't appear to have changed. I bet that nVidia's "launch" of the 6850 (or Ultra Extreme) is going to be the same way... Both companies were planning on releasing these later anyway, but just got a few pre-production samples out to hardware reviewers. I wonder if that move will help them look better or if it will hurt their initial sales because we know that they have something better waiting for us in the near future. I mean, $500 for an X800 Pro is a lot, but had they simply released that as their top card it might be a bit more acceptable. If you consider that last week a 9800XT was going for somewhere in the neighborhood of $400, $500 for a card that performs as well as the X800 Pro would not be as crazy as people are making it out to be. However, $500 for the Pro became a lot when we saw the performance of the XT, and began to wonder how much that would be if the Pro was selling for $500. The good news is that if Compusa is selling these cards for $400 and $500, respectively, then they should be found elsewhere for $350 and $450.

One's going to be 100 dollars more expensive.

With all these prices differences on these sites I think I'm just going to hold out until Newegg gets them. I mean it looks like they're playing dart's with the prices on the board.

The MSI 6800 at JS Custom PC's shows to have 256MB, but it doesn't have any info on the number of pipes. Seems too good to be true for $299. I bit on pre-ordering the $340 X800 Pro from Computers4Sure so hopefully that's not a pricing error.

Here some links for us Canadians. The prices are high, but I am almost certain (from inside sources) that by the time they ship, they will be cheaper. If you order now, you can get the price at the time of shipping, so go nuts on preorders!

Well as has been mentioned you can get it for $400 and below so anyone paying $500 for it is an idiot. Secondly, X800Pro beats 6800GT (16 pipes) in all newer games like HL2, Far Cry and the demanding Nature test in 3dmark03. Definately 12 pipe 6800 is no competition for the x800pro.

Yeah you are right, Nvidia might have a performance edge at the lower end. But being the leader at high-end rules the market, once and for all. Remember, MOST CONSUMERS OUT THERE ARE UNINFORMED. If the word of mouth gets around that X800xt beats anything nvidia has, everyone out there will be more likely to purchase ATI cards at every price level regardless of what nvidia offers. Think about it 5900xt smoked ATI at midrange for 1 full year and ATI still increased their market share. Wow those 9600xt sold like hotcakes. What's worse, some kid will walk into the store and see X800se, x800Pro, x800xt. Hmm....Pay $499 for xt version? hmmm sound like xt - extended version, so might be 10-15% faster with more software etc. (like games or w/e) SE = second edition..hmmm beautiful cheap...X800 New, must be WAY faster than 9800Pro and old series cards. WOOOT!! only $299 for a new generation that is 2x faster than old (as seen on boxes of the videocard and computer stores everywhere with regard to x800xt). How many ppl have been caught by buying 9000/9000Pro/9100/9200/9200se etc. and cards with 64-bit memory bus ? over say an old 8500? As I said, if you win at the top and everyone around town keeps saying ATI is better this time around, most ppl will buy ATI without blinking an eye. Of course smart users like you will evaluate their purchases more carefully.

Talking along the lines of pricing, has anyone here got their X800/6800 yet, if so. how much did you end up paying? Several places shipped/sold product already...

The 6800 isn't available anyhwere to buy. Nada for it. I am picking up the X800 Pro at my Best Buy tomorrrow morning. Thank god I took the day off.
