1: He is not alone. MAGA Nazism is far beyond him. It's an entire organization doing the damage.
2: Social media will continue to exist and radicalize people. As bad or worse than they are today.

We are not lucky. Trump is merely the beginning of this madness.
The other timeline branch is where this "Trump stupid" actually works as a vaccine and you bounce back stronger than ever. In that scenario the patient(you) might have actually died if Trump had been somewhat competent.

Yeah, modern dictators aren't what I would call "popular". They have a sort of fake/forced popularity but their population generally fucking hates them. It's just force that keeps them popular.

Most despots, historically and today, have a power-base. They have sizeable segments of the population that they keep happy. Iran would be an obvious example - we keep hearing how people are "tired of the regime", but there's clearly a significant demographic that still mostly supports them (I'm guessing, much as with the US, it's mostly rural, uneducated, and religious).

The despotism part just means it doesn't have to constitute a numerical majority, but regimes still need a degree of popular support.

[Edit] Actually, with Iran I suspect it's possible they might get tired of the religious conservatism, but any replacement regime will probably embrace aggressive nationalism even more than the current regime, and be even more anti-Western, anti-US, and anti-Israel.

Know nothing Trump is at it again putting himself in charge of stuff he will screw up:

Wasn't there another national leader who put himself in charge of the olympics a while ago? Trying to remember his name....let's see. Swammi? Slippy? Slappy? Swensen? Swanson?

So no more research grants for stuff like "why is duck penis screw shaped"...

May as well start preaching "curiosity is banned because it killed the cat".

Sorry Texans, repugs have other priorities - like trying to punish Dems who won't help them rig another election.

Remember how the right was super concerned about “law fare”?

Turns out that was projection as usual.

You misunderstood.
Their so called "lawfare" was their visceral rejection of holding them accountable for their crimes. That they should be above the law.
The actions you describe are more of the same. Stoking fear in the hearts of Americans so no one would dare meet them in a court of law.
Matches what I have been saying. Our future will be decided on the streets. In blood. Not under the now missing rule of law.

Yes, they've won. Virtually every institution has come to heel.

Next comes one party rule. Everything has an end.

"That's a nice university you've got there..."

So what is the Trump administration doing with the protection money they're collecting and the other congressionally appropriated funds they aren't spending (but also still somehow wracking up the bills)?

I thought Republicans were supposed to care about fiscal responsibility. Probably too busy caring about their new priorities, like pedophilia. Great party you've got there Greenman and co.

So what's the median tenure for political appointees? 2 months?

The way things are going, you're going to have an average of 4 departments under each appointee because there aren't that many moderately competent people that are also Trump bootlickers.

Increasingly Democrats should be talking and planning how to do all the things to Republicans that the Republicans said they were already doing (and more). If I was president it would be slash and burn against the red voting rural economies which are largely propped up on blue state tax dollars.
