You repeatedly focus on nuclear weapons in this thread. I have to wonder why and how educated you are about the issues. Yes, they are a much bigger deal than assault weapons and hand guns, but there's a culture of containment built around them that is extremely formidable. A considerable part of that involves the dangers surrounding radioactive materials. Also, the level of expertise involved in developing, maintaining and deploying them is very intense. They will not be given to "monkeys."
 
What is more concerning? Trump/Musk are hiring racists/antisemites in government or the incompetence of not vetting people? Which was it. Panel debates.

This one doesn't bother me as much as the other stuff. Don't get me wrong Patel is a piece of shit that should be taken to the wood chopper but he will likely be confirmed anyway by the spineless republican senators. However if he has been on the board for along time and has received similar grants in the past then there is nothing new here.

Guy who constantly complains about government spending wants to enact a program where each year we put 3-4 million 18 year olds into the military. Current military personnel is around 1.3 million so somewhere around tripling its size.

A quick google search says the average soldier costs the US around $140,000 per year. These will be on the low end so let's say $100k per year. That's $300-$400 billion in yearly spending or in how federal budgets are calculated a 10 year cost of $3-$4 trillion.

On top of that we now have free college. Picked a number in the middle there and when you count tuition, fees, and the living stipend the GI Bill pays let's call it $40k/year/student (based on in-state tuition). Maybe half take advantage of this so let's call it another trillion on top of that.

Guy who thinks we need to cut programs like USAID because the government spends too much wants to add spending that's anywhere between 600-800% of USAID's budget. In addition, we haven't even identified what those newly inducted soldiers would do, where we would house them, etc.

In case there was any doubt we now know that you love government spending and want to radically increase it!

So you concede that we do have the money to do this (free college for all).

Why not just do it anyway? A smarter populace can contribute more to the economy too.

I contacted my House rep to inform him that I expected him not to supply the R majority his vote to fund the government under the present circumstances. I suggest all interested persons here also contact their rep similarly.
