I can see the oil execs looking around at each other . You? Not me! I’m not risking billions and people again, this time in a war zone.

Like I can see Chevron taking over what exists but nobody is going to sink major investments into this place. I also assume that Trump will be, perhaps personally, getting a cut at the expense of the Venezuelan people.

President Donald Trump said Saturday that the US is “going to run” Venezuela indefinitely in the aftermath of the capture of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro.

“We’re going to run the country until such time as we can do a safe, proper and judicious transition,” he said during a press conference from his Mar-a-Lago club in Florida. “We don’t want to be involved with having someone else get in, and we have the same situation that we had for the last long period of years. So we are going to run the country.”

Trump added that he determined the US should take charge of Venezuela to ensure that the eventual next leader has the “good of the Venezuelan people in mind. But he offered no timeline for how long such a transition of power was expected to take.

“We’re going to stay until such time as the proper transition can take place,” he said.

Trump also said he planned to authorize US oil companies to take over Venezuela’s energy infrastructure, asserting that the corporations would “spend billions of dollars” on the project.

“We’re going to have our very large United States oil companies, the biggest anywhere in the world, go in, spend billions of dollars, fix the badly broken infrastructure, the oil infrastructure, and start making money for the country,” he said.

So basically we are taking over Venezuela to give their oil fields to American corporations.

We will have to see what the revenue sharing arrangement is worked out. If the security can be assured, Venezuela sits on a lot of oil that US refineries are optimized to turn into fuel. So much for not not starting "new wars".

Royalties: These are payments made to the government as soon as production starts, based on the volume or value of oil extracted. Rates typically vary from 2% to 30%, with a common range being 5-10% in many developing countries.

Corporate Income Tax: Oil companies are subject to local corporate income tax, which is often set at a higher rate than for other industries to capture a larger share of the resource rent.
Production Sharing Agreements (PSAs): In a PSA, the government retains ownership of the oil resources, and the international company (IOC) provides the capital and expertise. The oil produced is divided into "cost oil" (used by the company to recover its investment and operating costs, typically capped annually) and "profit oil". The profit oil is then shared between the government and the IOC at a predetermined ratio, with the government's share often being the larger portion.

Resource Rent Tax (RRT): This is an additional tax levied only when a project becomes highly profitable and the company's return exceeds a certain pre-agreed "hurdle rate". This allows the government to share in the upside of very successful projects.

Bonuses and Rentals: Governments may also receive up-front revenues through bonuses (e.g., signing or production bonuses) and annual rental payments for the right to explore and develop contract areas.

National Oil Companies (NOCs): In many countries, an NOC is involved in the process and the financial flows can be complex. The NOC may receive a direct share of production (equity oil) or manage the sales of the government's share of oil, transferring the proceeds to the national treasury.

Meanwhile, the country without universal health care, can go right ahead and fuck off! Enjoy your high prices and dropping job numbers.

Not even that extreme ... a drone strike is a more likely scenario.
I would not be horribly upset if a drone drove down trump throat before it exploded; and given the total ineptness of this administration i would not be shocked if it happened.

Regarding that dog & pony show Kegseth had:

Donald Trump and his defense secretary Pete Hegseth are mounting an aggressive push to politicise the top ranks of the US military – a push that smacks of Stalinism and could take years to repair, the former infantry chief who trained troops to invade Iraq has warned.

Maj Gen Paul Eaton has sounded the alarm, saying in an interview with the Guardian that the effort to bend the higher echelons of the military to the US president’s will was unparalleled in recent history and could have long-term dire consequences. He warned that both the reputation and efficiency of the world’s most powerful fighting force was in the balance.

“There is an active effort to politicise the armed forces,” Eaton said. “Once you infect the body, the cure may be very difficult and painful for presidents downstream.”

He added that the actions of Trump and his chosen head of the Pentagon were putting the standing of the military as an independent entity, free from party politics, at risk. “As the phrase goes, reputation is built a drop at a time and emptied in buckets.”

And I thought the authoritarian shit Trump is spreading up and down throughout the gov't could only happen in an epic horror movie. Heretofore I couldn't imagine I'd actually be in one myself yet here I am and there we are. Lest we forget, there's a cabal of oligarchs that's directly influencing Trump and his MAGAt base, compelling both to accede to the will of these monopolistic plutocrats.

Canada announced this morning that CDC/HHS can no longer be trusted to provide accurate information; i guess they knew what was going to happen later today.
It is sadly funny watching the party of “American Exceptionalism” justify shitty policy by saying “other countries do it”
