Trump Administration Live Updates: President Says Broadcasters Risk Losing Licenses When Hosts Criticize Him

Is this not a pathetic sight?

President Trump said on Thursday that regulators should consider revoking the licenses of broadcasters who air negative coverage or commentary of him, indicating that his assault on critics’ language is motivated at least in part by personal animus.

Speaking to reporters aboard Air Force One, Mr. Trump called the networks “an arm of the Democrat party” who are out to get him.

“I have read someplace that the networks were 97 percent against me, I get 97 percent negative, and yet I won and easily,” Mr. Trump said as he returned to Washington following a state visit to Britain, adding: “I would think maybe their license should be taken away.”

The comments were a remarkable escalation in a coordinated attack by Mr. Trump and his top aides, who are using the threat of the power of the American government to silence criticism or dissent following the assassination of the right-wing activist Charlie Kirk.

In the last week, White House has moved to target the tax status of liberal groups, monitor online speech, deny visas and threaten to designate certain groups as domestic terrorists. The administration has argued such measures are necessary to crack down on hate speech that could incite violence, even as Democrats and others warn that it amounts to a crackdown on opposing views.

On Wednesday, ABC pulled Jimmy Kimmel’s show “indefinitely” after pressure from the Federal Communications Commission chairman, Brendan Carr, over the late-night host’s comments about Mr. Kirk.

Mr. Trump on Thursday indicated that Mr. Carr should go even further and scrutinize the broadcast licenses of local television stations that run programming from the major networks, suggesting that both their news coverage and late-night comedy shows were unfairly tilted against him. “They give me only bad publicity,” he said.

“It will be up to Brendan Carr,” the president said, calling him “a patriot” and “a tough guy.”

Goebbels claimed the Nazi party had a "keen sense of humor" during their rise to power but could no longer tolerate mockery once established. His justification was telling: as National Socialism planned to remain in power for "2,000 years," it had "neither the time nor the patience" for critical humor — a sentiment that echoes whenever governments move to silence their comedic critics.

On a personal note, my employer is ramping up toward some personnel reductions, one way or another. We've got loads of positions understaffed due to a hiring freeze for the last 6mo or so and unless the leadership can drum up some donation dollars they'll start just laying off positions. Govt is demanding ransom, and they're going to pay it. Zero plan from leadership on what to do if the mafia comes knocking next year. Not even sure I want to stay here given that I don't have any confidence in my employment moving forward.

Unfortunately the USSC will rule this as ok…

As they ruled if you hangout where illegals hangout it is ok for ICE to pick you up.

If you go in the same routes as drug runners you must be a drug runner
The people carrying out these attacks should remember that a) there is no congressional authorization for this use of force, b) the rationale that a speed boat of limited range is some how a grave danger to the safety of the US, requiring immediate and deadly force, when we've simply interdicted these in the past, is fascicle, c) the statute of limitations for murder is unlimited, and d) "just following orders" isn't a legal defense.

Edit:
excellent points, however this is American justice, remember how long the people that commited my lai massacre landed in prison for?

1 person received 3 and a half years of house arrest - between 300-500 people where murdered

American justice!

Now the Trump administration doesn't want to sell arms to Eruope which long term will destroy the arm sales to 'friendly' country so basically trump administration has managed to destroy farming industry (no workers so crops are rotting), import industry (tariff) and now defense industry:

Arms sales to friendly countries were already destroyed long term as the US is no longer viewed as a reliable defense partner.

You don’t buy tanks and planes if you can’t buy spare parts for them and now US allies know those supplies can no longer be counted on.

It will take many years to decouple but Europe is already moving that way. This is another case where we will be feeling the damage from Trump for decades to come.

I'm just curious. What industry goods/manufacture is it Trump think US should create billions of jobs and export?

Military was a industry where US is market leader, but has now pushed all its allies away.

Obviously there's tech, but if we look at the steel/aluminum industries, what exactly is it he wants to be exporting?

An important thing to remember is this guy is extremely stupid and ignorant. He also struggles with long term planning.

The most likely answer is he assumes it will all work itself out, insofar as he cares at all because really if it isn’t personally enriching him or getting him favorable publicity it might as well not exist.
