Orange county has really light traffic compared to other big cities I have lived and driven through

I now reside and work in Irvine. My commute is a little over 7 miles long and it takes me anywhere from 14-20 minutes to get to work during rush hour.

What surprised me the most was when I had to goto Anaheim for work one day. I left there around 4PM and it only took me about 20 minutes to drive 16 miles from Angels stadium to near UCI where where my apartment is. Even the drive there that morning around 7:30AM only took about 20 minutes.

The worst traffic I have seen was in Chicago and West LA. Even Richmond where I used to live had much worse traffic due to having less lanes. Try driving on Hull street or West Cary street during rush hour lol.

Phoenix, at least my commute on the 101 (south from scottsdale to tempe in the morning), its like heaven compared to my Atlanta commute (also supposed to be a "reverse commute" from downtown to Dunwoody) but instead was always majorly gridlocked where MARTA was much faster

They did a decent job in Orange County. If you drive down the 5 or 405 you will notice that. As you pass LA then you start getting the 2 lane HOVs and 6 lane highways as you enter Anaheim. Yeah, they've got more money down there.

Orange county must've changed a lot in the past few years if the Anaheim/Irvine commute is only 20 minutes now. That used to be a solid hour when I was down there 10 or so years ago.

Nope, its just as bad (though not as bad as Los Angeles). Ever try driving 405-N during afternoon rush hour? How about trying to get through the Orange Crush? Its horrible. South Orange Country is better thanks to the 133/241 toll road.

Today was freaky light in traffic. I live in Fullerton, and worked in Mission Viejo today. Going to and from today took no time.

I live in Laguna, took some night classes at CSUF, and worked in Irvine. In general, the 405 is horrible after 5:00 if you plan on going north, and traffic tends to slow down on the 55 and 57 during rush hour. But as was mentioned, they did a great job expanding the 5. it seems like the police have been clamping down pretty tightly on the handsfree law, which accounted for like half the accidents as the girls no longer drive, do makeup, AND talk on the phone at the same time.

I've lived in OC for 6 years now this is how I see it:

Morning or Afternoon rush: traffic congests around the 405 & 55 in the afternoon where they intersect. Also going south past UCI (Culver) especially during school season blows.
the 5 freeway has improved nicely since my arrival, still shitty around the 22 intersection but its manageable.

WTF are you serious?!?!?!?!? The area of the 5 freeway around irvine is friggin horrible. That place is the most congested place ever. I never start driving up to LA from SD at 2pm or so. ugggh. That stretch of 5 freeway congestion goes on forever until the 605.

I used to live in Huntington Beach and on the 405, a 1/2 mile trip would take me 30 minutes at times because the traffic was so bad during rush hour

Most Canadian cities do not have particularly bad traffic.

The 401 is constantly clogged in the morning going to Toronto. Average speed is like 50-60 km, if that.

Ehh, every time I drive through Milwaukee I comment on how light the traffic is. Rush hour on the expressway in Milwaukee = still go like 40+ mph with minimal slowdowns/stops.

Contrary to popular belief, Toronto is not most of Canada.

Most of Canada is barren permafrost. What's your point?

Hwy 401 is the busiest freeway in North America and the Golden Horseshoe has 25% of Canada's population. Sorry, but you lose.

Hmm... actually, I'm pretty sure 25% is significantly less than the term "most" that I used in my initial post.

But that's typical Toronto ignorance for you, lol. Pretty laughable actually.
