He may be an asshole, but not for this. He's saying that even though he spent $166 million on it, it's not going to sell for that much so it should be valued at the $64 million it could sell for.

I don't know how this value is judged, but it sounds like a reasonable statement.

Put another way:
Just because I can spend $5,000 fixing my 93 Geo Metro after a collision doesn't mean someone is going to pay $5,000 for it.

Many folks in the Santa Clara Valley have held the belief that Ellison is an unmitigated ass for many years. All you have to do is read the multitude of stories about his fights with the local airport authority to see evidence supporting those opinions...this doesn't surprise me in the slightest.

Ellison is a certified pilot and has owned several unusual aircraft, including fighter jets. Ellison has been cited several times by the City of San Jose for violating its limits on late night takeoffs and landings from San Jose Mineta International Airport by planes weighing more than 75?000 pounds (34?019 kg). San Jose granted him a personal waiver from these regulations in 2001.

His argument was that his plane is actually quieter than most of those small planes that re under that weight. I fail to see why he's an ahole because he wanted to fly his plane into an airport after the hours of 11 pm...lol
