whats the difference??

More DVD players play DVD-R media. IF you
have a PS2 then it won't even read dvd+r
media.

Plus -r is cheaper!

DVD+R and DVD-R and god knows what else formats out there are all by different companies who can't manage to sit down and agree on one single compatible format. It's all about market share, but it makes it a pain in the ass for the consumer who has to figure out which format they want.

Wow - and I though that DVD+/-RW were just synonyms for a drive that reads and writes in DVD format... :Q

What's the advantage of +r then?

It's a competing format. Sony and Philips and whoever else all have their different formats that basically do the same thing, but they're not compatible with each other, from what I have heard.
