I've sold hundreds of Optorite drives, and they are extremely reliable. In fact I've only seen one come back for an RMA. One nice feature is they usually include a beige and black bezel.

I haven't tried any of the DVD burner from Optorite, but have had excellent luck with the CD burners.
I just ordered onew of the DVD-16x-DL drives. I guess I'll see.

I'm thinking I'm going to go for the Optiright 16x though for
about $11.50 more ;)

Why don't you go with the NEC-3500A instead then for the same price. Beige and black vary slightly in price.

NEC Drives

The NEC 2500A was very well regarded and I'd bet the 3500A will be too. Mine and my buddies produces very nice burns on Ritek 8x +Rs. Plus you can get region free and riplock modified firmwares at either CDRInfo or CDFreaks.

I purchased an 8X Optorite DVD+/-RW a couple of months ago. It worked fine for awhile, but a couple of weeks ago it had an error in the middle of a burn and hasn't been able to read anything since.

Umm, calm down guy/gal. You set yourself up for that. I for one have this and its great. I've backed up ps2 games, movies, and precious other files with no fail. Only problem I have with it is the seemingly long 2 second response time from clicking the open button to it actually opening up.

;) Have Optorite DD0405, and not only for the money, it has been the 'best' dvd/cd burner that I have owned.

This includes plextor, lite-on, and samsung.

You will not go wrong with this dirve. Their customer support is excellent. I have had to return one drive which was replaced with an upgraded unit, ie dd0201 to dd0405.

Hope this helps.

:D

I ordered this on Sunday and Newegg still hasn't shipped it out! I'm very disappointed. This is unlike Newegg. Did anybody else get in on this deal? What was your experience like? Funny thing is, I ordered a video card separately on the same day and it's being delivered right now (according to FedEx). Anyways, I hope they ship it out tonight.

I ordered on Saturday 10/30 and it was delivered yesterday. Slower than usual for Newegg. I haven't ordered on a weekend before though, so maybe they get backed up?

Same story here. Mine died after only 4 months of use, but thank goodness Newegg RMA'd it for a nicer Asus drive.

Just chiming in. My 4x worked great for about a year. Stupid thing died on me tho. Oh wait...did I mention that I had a corrupt disk and the firmware flash went bad

But yeah, I do miss it. It was a great drive, no problems.

I picked up the NEC-3500A this time around.
