Optometrist screwed up my new eyeglass prescriptions.

I went to go get my new glasses today but when I tried them on my vision didn't seem right. I told my optometrist's assistant about this and she just laughed and told me to wait a week to see what happens. WTF? I see better with my old glasses than I do with my new glasses! And don't your eyes actaully get worse if you constantly wear wrong lenses? I'm definitely not going to wear my new glasses for a week to "see what it's like" when I don't even see correctly with it.

That's how new prescriptions work. The new lens will take time to get used to. You may think you're ok with the current one, but once you get used to the new one and compare it w/ the old one, you will see a world of difference.

Give it a week. When I got my new glasses everything look distorted. I got sick and felt like throwing up at one point. A little over a week later everything was perfect.

^ The last time I got glasses, they felt weird but they didn't blur my vision at all. However, these new glasses DO blur and distort my right eye's vision.

Do NOT give it a week. You shouldn't be seeing worse. Being disoriented because you aren't used to the new prescription is not the same thing as having the wrong prescription, and optometrists do make mistakes. Wear your old glasses, then at the end of the week go back and say you want a recheck.

Uhhhh, I've never had that problem changing prescriptions. If they make you sick don't wear them.

they should've at least rechecked the prescription on the glasses right away. don't even wait a week, go back and tell them you can't see clear on the right lens. Ask them if the glasses matches the written prescription. Usually shouldn't take a week long to get used to a new prescription unless it's a pair of progressives or haven't had a new pair in couple years.

Yup, never had a problem with new glasses. They definitely shouldn't be blurry when you first put it on.

Yes, if your new prescription is higher than your old one, it will feel like your vision is kind of blurry and a bit distorted with the new glasses. It prolly will feel like it's too much to take and you have to remove your glasses after 5 minutes of wearing or so. But that's really how the higher prescription feels. Give it some time.
You could also go to another optometry store to have your new glasses independently checked. Who knows, your optometrist might really have made a mistake.

Good luck, man.

you might feel a little disoriented with a new prescription, but you should still see better with the new ones than the old ones, right off the bat. i'd go back to the optometrist.

i've never heard of "give it a week" if your vision is worse through new glasses... now, getting headaches and feeling sick, i've heard. My perscription has never changed enough for me to feel that for more than a day. even when I first got glasses, it only lasted a couple of days.

Go back and have your optometrist double check the RX. I have made a few mistakes in this industry but the Drs(or their staff) have made much more. Eyeglasses just bends light and images...

You can do your own vision test by looking at text from afar. If it's blurrier than before, then you got a problem. If it just seems weird to use then I agree it takes some time to adjust. But also, they could have screwed up your PD setting: improper PD can lead to the dizzy feeling when wearing glasses.

Better yet go back to your optometrists office and ask to read the eye chart.
