Projector Central Review:
"Optoma has designed a projector that both the first-time buyer and the experienced projector user can enjoy. It is light, bright, portable, and produces a great image, comparable to Optoma's H31 or other high quality 480p projectors. With the integrated DVD player, wiring is kept to a minimum, and the projector can be packed away in its included carrying case when not in use. If you are interested in portable, part time home theater in a living room or family room, the MovieTime DV10 offers a complete package that eliminates the hassles of cable clutter and connections. Selling at street prices around $1500 at the time of this article, the MovieTime DV10 is definitely worth a look."

Bulb Replacement costs.
If used in eco setting it would take 3 years at 18 hours per week to hit 3000 hours and that is around $115 per year for the bulb. Doesnt seem to shabby IMO.

Yes it has a dvd player built in and if it goes SO WHAT. It has computer and VGA in puts at that point hook up a upcoverting dvd player to it or do that and give it to the kids to use and time to move on to something better if this is your first one :p

Nice, general purpose, fairly portable, all in one solution (you can often get a surprisingly good picture projecting directly onto a matte white non-textured wall).

Seems almost too good to be true with all the freebies, even if they are AR. Anyone with experience with this stuff mind chiming in on quality based on the specs, etc?

I'd be a little leary ordering from "Projector.com" based on the following reviews:

ResellerRatings.com

and

Epinions.com

I'm not going to say that it is an outright scam or anything, but you should probably use a little caution if you are interested in buying this.

Good Luck!

If anyone is interested, I just noticed that Amazon.com currently has this projector for only $856.98 with free shipping!

Amazon Link to Projector

It doesn't come with the $50 Blockbuster card and nothing is listed about the free screen and subwoofer. However, there is a rebate form posted at Buy.com that is for the free screen and subwoofer and it appears that the offer is directly from Optoma themselves. On the form, there is no indication that you'd have to buy it from Buy.com or anywhere else for that matter. I'm thinking that it'd probably be good with an Amazon.com purchase. Don't take my word for gospel though. If you are tempted by this offer, you might want to verify elgibility from Optoma directly. Anyway, here is a link to the rebate form:

Free Screen & Subwoofer Rebate Form

I think you can check out the screen and subwoofer at Optoma's website. They look pretty decent:

Subwoofer Link

Finally, I just noticed that Amazon currently indicates that they only have 2 of these remaining in stock so, if you want one, better hurry!

almost bought this unit. great unit overall. went with the infocus 4805sp simply because infocus is local to me..

otherwise, from the research i've done, optoma is one of the best proj companies at least in the low-end price range (sub 1000 dollars)

I don't mean to thread crap, but I want to let people know that all projectors are not created equal. 854x480 resolution is fine if you're only going to use it for DVDs, and if you're not going to try to get anywhere near the size of the 92" screen they're giving away with it. If you try to blow up that low of a resolution image to that size, the pixels will be huge. I've seen it, and it's not pretty. Also, this projector says it accepts HD signals up to 1080, but it then throws away most of the HD resolution as it scales it down to EDTV (non-HD) resolution. In the last six months I've seen numerous EDTV projectors selling for $600-ish.

There are far better projectors on the market for not that much more that are true HD resolutions. I recently picked up a Sanyo PLV-Z4 (1280x720) for $1499 with a free replacement bulb and a free 92" 16:9 screen. Granted, it's $600 more than the OP's deal, but I got a $300 bulb for free that I would have been buying soon enough anyway. I also got a projector with over twice as many pixels, and HD looks fantastic on it.

A similar unit is the Panasonic PT-AE900U that you can pick up for $1300 AR ($1700 less a $400 rebate) and it comes with a $300 Blockbuster gift card. The Z4 and the AE900U are both great LCD projectors with fantastic color saturation and very good contrast ratios.

I encourage anyone considering a projector purchase to visit the AVS Forums and do a lot of research before spending their hard-earned dollars. Everybody has different needs, and it's likely that all of your questions have already been asked and answered there. DLP and LCD have their advantages and disadvantages, and it's important to know which one is right for you.

Also, there are 720p projectors that will be shipping in the next couple of months for under $1000. The market is changing fast, make sure you don't regret your decision.

I recently returned my (slowly breaking down) 4805 for the brand new Optoma HD70. I am very impressed and it's a far better projector than this one in the same range - $999.

Anyone interested in this DV10 should seriously consider the HD70. AVSforums has more.

Even though I started this thread I actually ended up going with a Optoma H31 for $599 AR and a $60 screen (100") from Tiger Direct and can honestly say all the people who chime in about how a SD PJ sucks and should spend $300-$800 more are crazy. The pic I get with mine (and Im only 13 feet away from the big screen) is the same and slightly better then my old Toshiba 65" HD CRT Widescreen that was bought back. Yes I do admit there is some screen door effect that close but you only6 see it for 10 minutes or lees and then your eyes adjust and you forget it is even there. If you site further away you dont see it at all (16" away or more)

The H31 has a very sharp picture and the color just pops off the screen. We watched Shrek 2 over the weekend and the colors where just unbelevable with no bleeding of any color and the PJ I havent even bothered to calibrate it yet. All the forums talked about the colors being off with pink/redish hue but I didnt have that OOTB so I dont think Im messing with it.

Anyway most need to know that if someone had money they woudl buy better. But if you only have a max of $1K to spend a PJ,Screen deal at that or under is the way to go.
