this is a Ok deal, i would not call it hot, there have been many deals for 1024 x 768 native resolution projectors for $500 to $600 range fairly often, and screens onsale usually run about $50.00.

I have a neat trick for saving for bulbs. I have a jar that I throw a quarter in for every hour I use the projector. If I watch a movie, I pony up some spare change and drop a couple quarters into the jar. Assuming marketing lies and the bulb only lasts 1,500 hours, I'll have $375 saved up. Subtract coin processing fees and you still have at least $325 to blow on a new bulb. It's easy and it works ;)

If you can link to these said deals on 16:9 projectors with that high of res in that price range and good screens for $50 I would sure like to know asap where to get one.

Wait that res you mentioned is 4:3 and not a hometheater res. I can find them too but the lumens would be too high and wash out any movie you were to watch on them. Great for presentations and gaming but not for movies with all I have been reading.

Make your own projector at either 720p or 1080p for much cheaper, with a $40 bulb.

bingo! :) i've been running my custom built 1280x1024 NATIVE rez projector and hand built screen for a few months now, and i must say its a beautiful thing :) brings new meaning to the word 'immersion' :)

granted it did cost me a little under 1k (SXGA build uses more expensive parts then the XGA build) but you can't beat a 20k+ hour $40 replacement bulb :) not to mention an actual native sxga projector still runs around 10k...

anyway, whether you build your own (not for the impatient) or buy a new one, a projector will kick any lcd's butt when it comes to the 'wow' factor @ gaming/movies.
