I'll agree that the optional updates aren't always worth installing. But I hope "Sometimes I'll look at the security updates" was a typo, because they should definitely be a priority.

Look at each one. Some, yes.

I got my first BSOD is years after a new Forceware managed to sneak in, a little while back! Luckily, the stop error was common for that version, and a new one was OK, but that's just not cool. So, don't go blindly installing them.

i always hide all driver updates and stick to the manufacturer drivers

but optional updates are good especially the Platform Update
