optional dvi

at the bottom of the page on the MSI site for the K8NGM2 Series under back panel I/O ports is "1 x DVI port (optional)
and 1 x IEEE1394 port (optional)

where are these on the MSI site and will they work with the K8NGM2-FID ???

thanks.

There are three versions in K8NGM2 series motherboards:

K8NGM2-FID comes with both DVI and IEEE1394; Gb LAN
K8NGM2-IL lacks DVI but comes with IEEE1394; 10/100 LAN
K8NGM2-L lacks both DVI and IEEE1394; 10/100 LAN

F = ?
D = DVI
I = IEEE1394
L = 10/100 LAN

True . however . i am curious what is on the MSI web site.

at the bottom of the MSI site decribing the K8NGM2 series are two optional back panel I/O ports listed. Try as i might i can not find the "DVI port".

Is that accessory really available and will that provide an extra dvi port on a K8NGM2-FID. Extra as in addition to the DVI port already on the back panel.

Sounds strange to me. The optional dvi port would require either using a PCIe x1 slot or one of the PCI slots, unless some where on the board are pins that allow some kind of hook up to the on board vide. Just doesn't make sense to me.

It seems that you have difficulty in interpreting the word "optional" correctly. Here "optional" does not mean "accessory" that you can buy and attach to the motherboard later. If you want "optional" DVI port, you have to buy the model that comes with it (FID). You cannot attach an accessory DVI port later to the other models IL and L to have one, or to FID to have two DVI ports. The same is true for IEEE1394.
